Northern Zone rifle opener??? Anyone Hiking in?

My buddy is taking me on a 4 mile hike into the Adirondacks this weekend.  We are backpacking in and sleeping in tents up near Tupper Lake.  It is my first time doing this and it's supposed to be 25deg at night with snow!!! This should be interesting! Don't expect to see anything but who knows might see the buck of a lifetime.  Anyone else plan on hiking in for the opening weekend of rifle anywhere? Usually I am bowhunting southern zone now but this year I shot an 8pt already so I figured why not.

One of my favorite hunts was that way up near North Lake.Packed in about 2 miles,set up camp and stayed the weekend.Killed a coyote that weekend and had a great time in general.

I am doing a 4 day hunt hunt up near lake pleasant the second weekend in November but staying at a hotel.  Will be doing all day hunts though so packing lunch and snacks.  I've done winter camping before and ended up sleeping in the truck lol.  Too cold for me.

I hiked from the truck to the camp.  A good solid 15 yards or so.  Actually  a few times to get things in.  I hope your hunt works out.

Good luck. With the colder weather I would layer up a few extra shirts. I have had good luck with weraring a few extra shirts under the camo you can fit them anywere and if you end up being cold a few extra shirts will go a long way.

Ahhh memories! I can't count how many times I've hiked back in for a weekend hunt in the ADK's... now I hike in, but get my butt back to the truck by dark... a man has to know his limitations.

I second wiggy gear. They make an awesome product. I've had my sleeping bag system for awhile and is still warm

where is a good semi safe spot to hike in for a weekend hunt and campout in the northern zone?  I have a buddy of mine that is interested in doing so.  I have hand held gps etc I am sure so long as there is a trail I can trax my way back out.  I would love to break the rifle out and get in the woods with it I am dying to do so!  Thanks guys!

GPS? Good luck when it works. Pack a Compass with instructions. Mine worked when it felt like it. Good luck and keep to a tight area.

Nope, going with some friends who go every year.  Looking like a decent weekend up there too.  Can't wait!

Never had much luck with a gps, no signal, batteries die, etc. I just use my good old common sense and some orange ribbon to mark my why. Make sure you have a nice warm bag.
