Doc
I went around the fence of the garden with round-up to get rid of the weeds the tiller doesn't get. I didn't feel any wind, but I did manage to get two hills of squash killed. Apparently it doesn't take much of it to do a lot of damage. Gotta watch what's going on all the time when you're using that stuff. Not only that, but while I was edging the driveway with the stuff, I apparently stepped in some of the treated areas, because I now have a couple of perfect shoe prints of nicely browned up grass.....lol. Question: is there anything that can be used for weed killing besides Round-up? I was looking at the price of a large bottle of concentrate and got hit with sticker-shock ..... $109! I do use quite a bit of it each year and buy the big bottles, but that price is getting just a little bit pricey. I did see another brand (I don't remember the name) that was only $69 which I think is a little more reasonable. I compared the two side by side, and it seemed to use about the same proportions for the mix.
fasteddie
I used some on a few spots of weeds and thought it wasn't working . A couple days later the grass was burned where I used it . I recall seeing a recipe to make weed killer with vinigar , liquid soap and salt but can't find it .
thphm
Burn them. They sell a torch and hose that connects to a 20 lb. prophane tank.

WesternNY
I use generic Round up know as Glyphosate. Prices I have paid range from $45 to 60 for 2.5 gallons. I tend to use TSC Pronto Big and Tuff and watch for it to go on sale. It will last years, do not let it freeze, read the manual and learn to mix to the correct ratio. I do use this site as well, but shipping likely will make it not cost effective for most things. http://www.keystonepestsolutions.com/roundup-generic-glyphosates-9/?zenid=759346c238197146ab9858fdae0f0417

Doc
A guy I used to work with used a propane torch. The only thing is that it is a surface attack rather than from the roots up as Round-up claims.
ants
I think Round up is made to kill everything it comes in contact with. Garden vegetables included. I have been using stuff called Bonide weed beater to kill lawn weeds around my fence. It works well, but creeping charlie is putting up a good fight against it. I would talk to the garden shop people (not the big box stores) and ask what they recommend. I have used Roundup and ended up killing flowers, plants..etc with just a little bit of overspray. Good luck.
wooly
When I was researching Boric acid for some taxi work, I learned it is an effective weed and bug killer, as well as a preservative. Apparently it disrupts the photosynthesis process and kills off the weeds(plants). When applied to persistent troubled areas of ground, it also prevents re-growth. It's also a main ingredient in many insecticides that kills off ants, roaches, spiders, etc, by attacking their exoskeletons from the inside when they clean themselves and ingest the powder. Also kills unreachable larva back at the source when carried back to the nests by the target buggers. In theory, it's a good mild multi-purpose poison to have around the house for many killing occasions, lol Edited July 13, 2014 by wooly
