Fishing With Pygmy

Dan (Pygmy) came up to fish for smallmouth bass with me on Friday.  The original plan was to just fish Saturday morning on the river but the winds were so calm we decided to fish Lake Erie out of the Small Boat Harbor Friday afternoon.  I haven't done much out there with my little boat but figured we'd give it a shot.

We did pretty good (THANKS to Dan's hand tied jigs) on the bass and banged a few big sheep head too.  We fished around the round house then took ride up the Buffalo River to show Dan the activity in the harbor and the Navy ships.  He was in the Navy when the ships were made of wood........... :D  It was nice to show the navy Veteran those old war horses.

After we got back to the SBH and retrieved the boat we went to Doug's Dive and had a fish sandwich and a couple beers at the bar.  The place was a mad house but the scenery made up for the chaos. :good:

I have a couple pics from Friday afternoon but they'll be loaded in another post since they are on my Iphone and its easier to post them from that.  Hang in I'll do that now.....................................

Then the Saturday report complete with a pic or two to follow.

Sounds like a great day. My buddy has been hammering the smallies pretty much where you were. 40 one day with a nice northern and a small musky and 25 the next day. He's throwing crankbaits and some Gulp tube jig thingy. Call them sheephead freshwater drum and they sound so much more sporting : )

Saturday started out slow but ended well, we ended up keeping our limit of ten.  Dan ties his own jigs and they are tremendous fish catching little gems.  Different sizes and colors do the trick.  This is the second summer I've had the boat and nobody has out fished me until now, he handed me my lunch with those jigs.  I used crabs and minnows mostly but did catch a few myself when I used his jigs.  I'd guess he out fished me 4-1.  Talk about schooled....................... B)

Here he is in the fighting chair.............a series of action photos!!

NOTE:The beer  is only for nutrition as a barley sandwich or six keeps the hunger pains at bay.  The type of beer was chosen to match the color scheme of the boat. :O

I have been in Dan's company only a few times; once when we made a deal on a firearm prior to the NYSafe Act, a days fishing on Keuka for perch last summer in his boat and a breakfast with he and his better half last fall in Bath, NY.  As much as I liked he and Sis I found the true test when he came in and sat on my davenport ( :haha: ) and our cat Nick jumped up and snuggled up right next to him.  He also passed the introduction with flying colors with our Lab, Jenny!  Pets can figure folks out pretty quick.......................

He slept in the family room (after I had Obama take those damned Mexican kids back  ) and he and Jenny bonded well.  Nick got so excited just as we were getting ready to hit the road he puked his breakfast all the hell over the dining room rug and floor.  Just a little delay to the schedule.........

Good times!!

Good stuff guys!

Glad the mermaid didn't get angry you sent Pygmy home smelling like fish and cheap booze while covered in Jenny's black short hairs!

Great shots from your day on the water!

She's used to me smelling like fish and cheap booze... That's because I fish a lot and drink a lot of Genny Lite...LOL..

If Jenny's black hairs had been CURLY, I'd have been in trouble..

I had a great time..Larry and his lovely bride Kathy are a fine host/hostess..

I couldn't believe how good the fishing was considering how BUSY the water was..Lots of boat traffic, along with jetskis, etc. I guess  the fish are used to the commotion. Down here on the Finger lakes, they shut down in relatively shallow water as soon as the lake gets busy.

Thank you for the use of the term "Davenport". My grandma and grandpa used the term daily when I was growing up. When I read your post, it brought back some great memories of both of them. Grandpa was a great fisherman on Cayuga, catching his limit almost daily of Lakers.
