Poor opening weekend

Corn is up just about everywhere around where I hunt.  A few shots heard but not many.  I didnt see a thing.  Nothing on my trail cam for 3-4 days before opener. Fun weekend despite not seeing anything. 

 

Seems to me every year I hear less and less shooting. Less people out? Less deer?

I heard fewer shots than ever on opening morning.

 

Saw some deer, but nothing I wanted to shoot. I'll be curious to see what the harvest numbers indicate. I actually think the overall population is down in the areas I hunt.

looked to me like the amount of hunter's was way down in my area as well.

Wasn't here but nearly all but a few locals went home Sunday ...except lease guys

 

So Tuesday should be good....will go out last hour tonite...just back from PT...snow is so wet!!

I couldn't believe how quiet it was this weekend too! I was telling the guys from the lease who haven't been here for opening weekend before that it sounds like a warzone but if I heard 40-50 shots opening day that would be a lot! I'm use to 100+ by 0800!

One thing I noticed in my area was that after they legalized rifles the number of shots declined on opening weekend.  Where before I'd hear 4-5 in a row now I hear 1-2.

I had people pushing deer opening day plus the standing corn isn't cutt

I heard a lot of shots OD,more so then in years. We only saw a couple young bucks one of which was coming right to my daughter who is not held to the mature buck rule on the farm ,but only gave a head on shot then went into cover.

My buddy had a monster come in from behind him heard some foot stomps, and off it went.

Oh well.

Every year gets quieter than the one before. Of course I'm not sure how many guys got surprised by the colder opener. It's usually warmer.
