Lifetime hunting license

Question at 37 years of age, is the lifetime hunting only license for $535 worth it? I know it includes large and small game but does that cover turkey and fur bearers as well?

It does fur bearers is considered small game.  Turkey is also covered.  At the current rate, hunting licenses are $22 per year and $10 if you include turkey it would take you 24 years to break even.  That would cover you up to your 61st birthday.

 

BUT...that's assuming prices never change over the next 24 years which I highly bought.  You can bet your butt that cost of annual license will eventually rise simply due to inflation so by buying a lifetime, you lock in the price.

 

PLUS, the lifetime also includes your fishing license which is currently $25 per year.

If you mean furbears as in trapping no...I believe no to turkey as well...Mine includes turkey but I slipped in under the line on that one...I suppose you need to figure out how much your spending a year now. Then calulate the # years you honestly think you'll spend that much per year...

It all depends on how you value hunting. I have a lifetime license and its one of the best decisions i have made. Although i got it when I was 13 and that was before the prices went up. If you plan on hunting in NY a long time, its probably worth it.

No, he's right, if you get just a lifetime hunting license it's $535, and doesn't include fishing. It will pay for itself in the 16th year, and you also have the convenience of having it mailed to you but you still need to pay for your DMP. If you fish at all you should get the combined for $765, that pays off in the 14th year.

 

The lifetime hunting license covers small game, big game, predator hunting (not trapping), and turkey hunting. The combined adds fishing. It was a much better deal before the last time the prices were raised, I got the lifetime sportsman (hunting and fishing) for $400 something if I remember right, and DMP's were included free for life. Picked up bowhunting at the same time which I think was $135. It paid off in 7 years too.

 

Edit: Had to look again, the $535 license doesn't include turkey, so it doesn't pay off until the 25th year. I would definitely get the $765 license if I was buying today.

It's 765 if u have fishing but if you look under it, it's 535 for just hunting.

One good thing is if you move out of NY State, you will still get the license mailed to you without cost.  if you wanted to keep hunting in NY for life, you would save a lot considering the cost of a non-resident license.

I would say it's worth it if you don't fish. Your tags are mailed to you every year, no waiting in line. My doe permits are free because I bought mine about 15 or 16 years ago. I'm not sure if the doe permits are still free for new lifetime members. I thought I heard rumor NY was going to try to make newer lifetime license holders pay?

 

I bought mine when it was $500 for the sportsman including fishing. I added the lifetime muzzleloader to it for $125 and a couple years later the lifetime archery for $180. Best money I ever spent!!!
Obviously, all those prices have gone up.

 

I bought my son a lifetime sportsman license right before he turned 3 years old for $300. The lady asked me "how do you know your so is going to want to hunt?" I said to her the way the prices are going up it's worth it just so he can go fishing!!!

I do not purchase a lifetime license.This seem's to be a false statement,if I were to move out of NY I then become a non-resident so how by purchasing this license be valid?This statement is saying if I had said licenses if I were to move I would still be able to use even though I am no longer a resident of NY

Not sure what you are saying in this post but yes, if a resident buys a lifetime resident then moves to Cornhole Tennessee he can return to NYS each and every year until he dies and hunt for FREE.

 

How's that for a bargoooon?

Quite a nice gesture from the good folks in charge that I'm sure they regret!!  I know a couple people that have one and moved out of state.

 

If a family has a long legacy of hunting and has a camp that they expect to be in the family for many years it is a heck of a present for a new born boy.  (I know, I know........chicks hunt too)

as long as there is a hunting season..we dont have one till its voted on every year... most people do not know this and its the main reason we need a state amendment that allows hunting and places said game under the management of a game commission..

I am 45 now and I bought my lifetime big game and archery and my wifes life time archery 6 years ago very worth it to me. I plan on hunting a long long time and it is nice getting it mailed to us...

My buddy lived in NY just across the river from PA.  He bought the NY Lifetime Hunt/Fish License about 20 years ago.  He moved just across the river into PA after the SAFE Act passed and has a PA resident hunting license now but still hunts in NY with friends every Sunday.
