Borngeechee
Is it just my local shops or is 338 win mag just that difficult to get? If I still had the option to order online, the stuff is everywhere but none of the LGS have any. What ammo issues have u been having? Culvercreek hunt club
Happens when ever you slide outside the norm. I bet if you were in a store out west eh availability would be much better because it is a more common cartridge out there than it is here. Really has to be one of those buy it if you see it efforts for you. Either that or start reloading and them you don't have that issue. 22 Mag continues to be the thorn in my side. grampy
Having a hard time finding 7mm/08 ammo in a lot of places. When I do find it,the choices are limited.
steve863
I have a .338 Win Mag, and you definitely won't find it everywhere. I don't fire it much at all, but the last I checked it was not very easy to find. Since we no longer can mail order ammo in NY, it definitely makes things tougher. I would suggest taking a drive to the Cabelas in PA and stock up that way. It's a nice place to visit if nothing else. Oh, make sure you take a good amount of money with you because .338 Win Mag ammo is not cheap. Probably averages close to $50 a box. If you want the premium stuff it will set you back even more. sbuff
Same for 7.62x39 soft points, everywhere on line but hard to find local
Don_C
It is difficult to find and when you do it's not cheap. I paid between $50 - $60 for the last box I believe.

hunter49
All kinds of ammo on line we just can't have any sent into our "safe" state! This really s^(ks!
ATbuckhunter
I think you might be able to order from Cabelas and send it to one of their stores. I think your closer to the CT one so that might be a better option.

Borngeechee
Availability and price is something I always factor when choosing a rifle. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk I usually do. My 270 and 3006 are easy to feed but I just wanted the 338 because I think it's a sexy round. Hell it's overkill for anything in NY but damn it like it and now I'm suffering for it lol. hunter49
Their are some super prices on ammo from the catalogs & supply houses & we can't have them sent here. The problem ordering from the LGS is they nick you with the jacked up price because they know they have us by the short hairs!

My son shot a buck this season at 40 yards with the .338 win mag and it had less meat damage than we've had with the 270wsm. It has been my experience with the .338 and whitetails that the deer will not take another step.

If you know the "true" cost of owning the rifle and still willing to deal with it, then don't let anyone tell you what to do.
