Yes controversy. In case you did not know gun control is controversial , minor level entertainers stand to lose a lot more than the big names so he did what he thought would harm him the least , bow out and avoid further controversy of supporting gun control.

Country music is the largest genre out there.

The goverment and all these Anti-gun people just keep pushing that guns are evil. Just look at what has happened in the last 20-30 years about pushing the fear of guns on people. I remember having my guns in my truck in a gun rack in the back window. This was in the late 80's. Now if I had a gun in my truck just on school grounds, what would happen to me? These anti's are putting fear in their kids head, and making them afraid of guns.

 

So just to clarify, with all the weirdos, pedophiles, nut jobs and sick bastards out there if you pull up to my sons school in your pickup with a shotgun in the rack I should just assume you're a good guy going rabbit hunting?

 

Don't get me wrong, I know what point you're trying to make but there is no magic sticker that sorts out the good from those will ill intentions.

I have had shotguns out on the trunk of my car in school parking lots showing the teachers my gun because I was going hunting right after school. How times have changed. As a society, maybe we need to actively and aggressively taking out the scum that are infecting our society. The soft more humane approach to dealing with the thug/criminal element has done nothing but foster it's growth.

When you saw a pick up parked, with a long gun in the back rack, you knew to walk over and see if the guy had a deer in the bed. Now if I saw a guy driving with a gun in the rack, I would wonder how long it would be before he got pulled over.

It is sad indeed that times have changed, but just the same they have changed. I'm in my early 30's so I don't have the history some of you do, but you can't ignore the world we live in... What if that guy in a pickup was going hunting but was wearing a turban?

I don't think buying into and perpetuating all the myths around gun ownership will help. Allowing that has gotten us to where we are today. I believe it takes education and action to turn this around and shrugging your shoulders and saying "oh well, it is what it is" does nothing but let us slide further down the rabbit hole. So my view is get active and change it back.

Hunting and guns are a part of everyday life..Now in an urban setting it may make me think twice..

Only reason I can think of to hang a gun on a rack would be to look cool or make a statement. I might

question their judgement..

I work around an airport that has a lot of unique planes flying in and out, so it draws plane enthusiasts who like to hang around the perimeter fencing and take photographs of them coming and going.........very rarely if ever, will your regular "American looking" person draw any attention, but I can tell you that anyone that fits into a "Middle Eastern looking" category, doing the same thing, will generate a call to 911 and Airport Security almost every time......and that's just the way it is nowadays, so I can kinda see what he's getting at.

I don't know.  I have a hard time believing you guys that live in the rural areas that you wouldn't give a middle eastern looking guy a second look if he had a gun visible on him or his vehicle.  Especially near a school or other place with a good number of people around.  Hell, I've seen some people in rural areas ready to call the Feds if they saw one of them pumping gas at a gas station, let alone in possession of a firearm!  Come to think of it they'd probably call the police if they saw that AYE-RAB Obama carrying an ice cream cone, so I don't think the middle eastern guy with a deep accent would be given a free pass either. Sihks are the ones that usually have the turbans and they are one of the most peaceful and compassionate groups of people you will ever meet. I know a good bit of them. Every day they open their temples up to anyone that is hungry and they ALL eat together. It doesn't matter if ur rich, homless, or just hungry. They treat everyone with respect.

Born, you got to it just before I could and you nailed it. Personally, I don't care if the person with a gun in the truck is an alien from outer space. I'm only concerned with the actions they exhibit with it.

My first reaction to anyone I see with a firearm isn't fear, it's more of a feeling of brotherhood, no matter who they are. I initially see in them what I see in myself.

But if they start to act in a criminal fashion, I now see them as someone who needs to be shot.

The firearm is only a tool, a tool that can be used for good or evil. The person is the weapon.

If you're not going to introduce some level of gun control, then the guy taking his kid rabbit hunting is no different than the guy intending to do harm. A gun in the truck, is a gun in the truck. Guns are not evil, but some who use them are.

 

Your simple refusal to say "hey guns shouldn't be around near schools" is just bafeling because you live in these little small rural towns and don't have a freaking clue of what going on in the world other than what you read about online.

 

This isn't directed at the majority of you, but a select few... get out and freaking travel. Travel further than your local sporting goods store. Talk to people who don't have the same interests as you. The world is not black and white and to think it's ok to drive into a school in this day and age with a gun in the truck is just plain retarded.

I do have kids, and I wouldnt give that much of a thought to someone pulling up with a rifle or shotgun in the back window of their truck. I also wouldnt pay much attention to the black guy or middle easterner in the caddy either. Not in my area. Now if I was in the city, in a completely different type of situation, then yes, I would. Its all based upon the context of the situation. I honestly feel safer knowing there are armed, law abiding citizens around me.

 

Youre right, nothing is black and white, but maybe you should start living by the advice you tend to hand out around here. You constantly speak from both sides of your mouth in an effort to try and make your point. Its pretty amusing.
