“Officials are investigating a fatal hunting related accident. It happened at about 7:30 p.m. Monday.

Officials with the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission said 70-year-old George Olivo of Reidsville was killed from the injuries he suffered when the tree stand he was in fell to the ground.

Olivo was transported to Cone Health where he died.

"As a hunter myself, of course you never want to hear about it, both in my personal life and work life. Again, it's something that could happen to any of us," said North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission Officer Nathan Green.”

Always use safety harness.

It happens every year, and more often than you might think. Our family was touched by this same kind of tragedy a couple years ago. When we think we are invincible, that's when something real nasty will happen. Buy and use the proper safety gear or stay the hell out of the trees.

This should serve as the annual "wake-up" call for treestand safety on this forum.

Aside from the obvious need for safe life-line & harness use, climbing tree stands have their own distinct set of issues. If you use one, please visit youtube and view some of the videos about how to recovery from a climber &/or hang-on incident. If you're not prepared (mentally) for any of these unforeseen accidents, they could be fatal!!!!
