adkhunter71
Pretty strong evidence that they are below: Last month when they cancelled the Sportsman channel they said “difficult decision to remove channels that the vast majority of our customers do not spend a lot of time watching, particularly where suitable alternatives exist.” Last night they dropped the Outdoor Channel because, as they say, "Each year, the cost of content increases substantially, and in order to prevent those costs from being reflected on your bill, it is sometimes necessary to remove channels from our lineup." The suitable alternatives that they mention are History Channel, Destination America, Nat Geo Wild and the Discovery Channel. When was the last time that anyone who loves to hunt watched an actual hunting show on one of these channels? Verizon thinks that shows about ice road truckers, Alaska State Troopers or game wardens qualify as actual "outdoor television". I realize that a lot of hunting shows don't depict "real" hunting the way that most of us do it, but I would like to have the choice to watch if I so choose. If anyone was considering switching to Verizon, I would strongly advise against it. http://www.cablefax.com/programming/verizon-drops-outdoor-channel
Elmo
You do have to admit that not a lot of people watch the Outdoor Channel. Even some hunters don't even watch it. For Optimum, it is not part of the basic package. I have to pay extra to have it and I only pay for it because of 2 shows. Meat Eater and Jim Shockey's Uncharted. I've also heard that if you DVR a show and watch it later, it doesn't show up on the ratings. They can only detect lives viewings. I'm not sure if this is completely true or not. Mr VJP
I think it has to do with profit, more than anything. If only a small percentage of their viewers watch these shows, they may be motivated to drop them. The cost to carry them is the same as for a more profitable one. Caveman
I agree with the above. I think it's a business move. As a hunting enthusiast, I have never watched the Outdoor channel or any of those shows. I just don't enjoy them. Besides, they're directing you to channels that carry shows like Mountain Men, The Last Alaskans, etc.--shows that heavily depict trapping. I would think they would drop those channels if they were seriously animal rights crusaders.
Bow Addict
I'm a dummy I guess.I only know Verizon as a phone company.Up here we get the Outdoor channel on Cable or Dish.
phade
TV providers and station companies are constantly at odds about programming rights/access/fees. Strictly a business move. TV providers are really being hit hard by the advent of internet-based TV viewing. It's only going to get much worse, and it's worse than they expected right now. BellR
The only show I watch is Meat Eater. The other 99% of hunting shows out there are just hornography, and about as real a depiction of hunting as that other word that rhymes with it is of... well you know.

Five Seasons
i have had directv for 2 years and been without the outdoor channel the whole time. we do have pursuit and sportsman so it's not a loss. the only way to talk is with your wallet. I remember several years back when timewarner didn't renew cbs and they had to give out free antennas so we wouldn't all miss the bills game. i think cbs came back that monday haha. I've heard it called hunting porn or horn porn, but I don't think I've ever heard anyone say "hornography". I kind of like it actually. Sounds even more dirty and horny. Fantail
This opinion is from someone who cut the media subscription cord years ago; if they cut your commercialized 'show', call them and cancel your subscription. People need to open their eyes and realize what mind drumming garbage they are paying to be fed.
