Deer infested with Ticks

The last two deer we took out of South Bristol had a lot of Deer Ticks . We would hate to haul the tick infested deer back to my sons place and have the ticks in his barn or in the lawn . I was thinking , why not take a pulley / gambrel  with him as well as some plastic totes and garbage bags . Then hoist the deer in a tree . Skin it and quarter it . Put the hide in double garbage bags and bring it home .

Has anyone ever tried tried this  ?

That's what I do every time. I never put a deer in my car that hasn't been skinned. If you can, bring a couple milk jugs filled with water to wash down the meat after you skin it. Double bag the cape if you plan on mounting it just as you said.

sure have Eddie. Works well land leaves the cookie pile in the woods if it's allowed on the property

Gut pile is okay to leave on property as long as it is somewhat out of sight . Everything else has to go .

i'd prefer not to skin anything in the field. the drag and gut and hunt are usually enough for me. Plus the sooner you skin the sooner you expose everything. A lot of ticks will fall off rather quickly after death.

take it home, hang it and take a rope, make a circle on the floor under the deer and spray it with permethrin....the ticks will drop off and never leave that circle.

The buck I shot was loaded with wood and deer ticks.

Ask your butcher about a spray they use to kill the ticks on the deer before processing... my butcher uses something, but I never thought to ask him what it was.

Deer ticks  and deer keds are 2 totally different insects. Ticks are common as well as keds. Ticks carry lyme disease where as keds don't carry any diseases that can infect humans.. Ticks have 8 legs and keds have 6 .  just my 2 cents...................
