Lawdwaz
I had to go into Lockport around 6:50 tonight and saw smoke from the 990 at North French. I got as far north on Transit Rd as Lincoln Ave before I figured I'd better turn around. Turns out it was/IS the High Tread tire recycling plant.......again. Well actually it is as far as I know their third fire that they have had at different locations in that general area. It's a MASSIVE fire! I'd say it's time to shut that place down or get them to relocate........ The building is very close to the Erie Canal and run off from the fire is sure to end up in the canal; that sucks. landtracdeerhunter
My SIL lives less than a block north of the fire. Asked to leave their house They stayed behind watering their roof down from fling embers until fire crews relieved them. The heat and smoke was intense. Fire companies from three counties there. Fire companies did a tremendous job in fighting this roaring monster, which is still burning intense this morning. Hats off to all of them and all that responded. Contaminated water runoff flowed into the Erie canal . It also flowed into storm sewers that drain into 18 mile creek. Millions of gallons polluted the environment. This doesn't even include the black toxic tire smoke that poured into the sky for hours.

It is feared he was trapped in one of the buildings that was destroyed by the fire. Prayers go out to the family in hopes that he returns safely.
