Any input on seling big game mounts..??..

Due to a divorce a few years back, I no longer have room for some of my taxidermy mounts and am considering selling some of the larger ones, such as my caribou shoulder mounts..

I'm not sure where to start or how much they are worth..

Has anyone had any experience selling mounted big game heads..??..

I'd be grateful for any input...

Check Ebay for something to compare prices with. I would see if local hunting clubs were interested in buying first then put them on the internet. You could also just type selling caribou mounts into google and see what pops up.

I see them on Craigalist, I tried selling a fox once, didnt have any luck though.

Perhaps a store like Cabelas or maybe a local restuarant would be worth contacting. I will give you $5 a piece for the mounts you don't want sight un seen..lol

$5 is my standard offer for everything for guns to motorcycles.

unless it's a trophy head b&c their not worth much.. 100-150, yoour better off lending them to a sport shop or club when you get room you can get them back.

I agree.. never sell something you might regret selling later... you could let me borrow them for my camp!!

Yeah... I hear ya, guys, and I really appreciate your input....

However, I  am not exactly YOUNG anymore....I'm settled into a nice home with my fiance'...It's a nice place and I have room for a few of my smaller mounts ( up to the size of a mule deer), but it's an older place with low ceilings and there is no room for caribou, elk and moose mounts..

And my mounts are taking up room in a good friend's house ..He has been very patient but I know he would like to get rid of them... He has his own stuff to display..

I thought that if I could a good $$$ from them to go towards a big game hunt, it would be money well spent..

BTW.. I ain't hunting for horns anymore...Just meat and the experience of the hunt..

Gunbroker.com has a section for selling taxidermy.  You can even find out what similar mounts are selling for.

I'm not sure about NY state laws on selling mounted animals, horns, etc.  First thing I would do is check with the DEC as to what the laws are regarding the sale of such items.

I saw some deer mounts in the want add's and they were asking $80-100, certainly doesn't seem like a money maker.

trophy size stuff can go for big bucks.. average stuff gets average money..but there is definitely a market for mounted animals.

Maybe check with Gander or Dick's Sporting Goods.

They have many mounts there on display. Perhaps they would use yours and allow you to place price tag on them also.
