So i found this under the skin on the thigh of a doe I hit the Sunday before that big ass fast lady sang about the close of deer season. The shot was not what I thought  she was a bit closer and I hit her in the back took out her rear wheel drive.. the bullet absolutely destroyed the spine. Now I weighed this and it was exactly the same as a new one not a bit of difference. Now that's weight retention Its a Barnes MZ expander  semi ogive spitzer style boat tail. I think without checking the B.C. is a 203 on this and the weight is 245 grains.

I shot Power-belts when I first started shootin muzzle loaders . I had some issues with complete pass thru. Blood trailing was a problem if it was not for snow i would have thought i missed a doe , she never dropped a lick  of blood. I have a lot of luck with barnes in my triumph. I shot 2 deer at 120 or so, then i got 2 more 1 at 150 and 1 at 165  and finally  a buck at 197 yards. Not in that particular. It was a good year in pendelton.

Looks like most of that powerbelt is missing. Did you weigh it for weight  retention?

(apologies again for not being a ML'r slug but I love this bullet!)

Here is a Barnes TTSX from my .243, used to kill a doe in PA at 235 yards.  I've posted this bullet before but snapped some new ones anyway.....(oh, it retained 100% of it's weight.  It was a head on shot and the bullet lodged in a hindquarter ham)

You put the word "p-o-r-n" after any word and you will get responses :-)

This is not MZ but I like the gallery so I figure I would share, it hit the front shoulder of a decent doe and stopped on the back blade (undamaged mind you) I was using Lithuanian steel slug (Monolit 32) on my old Mossy 500

I don't know that that's the bullet I'd want to be using. Some form of expansion would be what I'd be looking for.......

There was a lot of bad bullets back when shotgun sabots first came out.  I remember drilling a few deer thru the lungs and the exit hole was rarely much bigger than the entry   They had a big improvement in accuracy, over the old fosters, but they really forced one to use his tracking skills.   The Hornady SST and others that are out now are vastly improved as far as easy recovery goes, the only drawback being increased meat damage.

we have a CRAP luck with the SST's and the shockwaves that are made for TC by Hornady. 45 hole in and 45 hole out. crappy blood trails. The only good blood trails with those have been quartering to when I can get into bone before vitals. Gonna be Barnes ML bullets next year and a different 12 ga sabot.

The blunt force on these slugs is uncanny I was skeptical too but after seeing few deer running only 30-40 yards the most after being hit changed my mind. Wolc is onto something the shoulder that got hit first was a burger meat the second that stopped it was just fine Other deer with a clean lungs shot it was always through and through and they bleed out in seconds even bigger boys. It works for me so I will keep using it.

I have yet to have one run off farther than 40 yards, after being struck anywhere (usually behind the shoulder) with an SST.   I can always count on loosing a few chops with a high lung hit.    I only hit one this year, with a 12 ga SST, and that shot struck high, breaking her spine.   Our freezers were nearly full, so I gave the big doe to my brother in law.   He always grinds the whole thing anyhow, and mixes 50:50 with ground beef for making jerky.    It will be interesting hear how much meat he had to trim away.

wow there are quite a few  mushroomed bullets. as far as I am concerned they are as hard to find as hens teeth. I feal lucky every time i get on or some fragments of one. I have whats left of a 7.6 round sent to a doe from my British 303. I found the tip to a hornady sst out of my 12 gauge. looked down when i was talking to my hunting buddy and saw a red thing in the dirt. but thats about all i have.

I thought of this thread when I skinned my doe on Saturday morning. She was so cold and I didn't have a ton of time so I skinned and quartered her and went back up today Monday to debone and cut the rest. As I was skinning I realized I had not gotten a pass through on my first shot. Embedded on the opposite side up against the hide I found this little gem. It's a TC 240 grain XTP bullet/sabot.

I'm impressed with the mushrooming but not impressed that it didn't go all the way through. Will experiment this off season with some others.

Zem, I would be pretty happy with that bullet.  I get that you want an exit hole, but you definitely got mushrooming/ energy transfer/ shock!  Did she go far?  It's hard to get great transfer like that out of a muzzleloader due to lower velocity.  You need to shoot what you want, but I'm impressed with that bullet.

She didn't go far but the shot was low and back( liver and stomach) at 40 yards so it should have gone through. Second shot was through and through and finished the job. It did as advertised but again I was expecting a different outcome. This is only the second deer I've shot with the muzzleloader so I don't have a ton of experience with the results but again the outcome wasn't what I had expected. I have a dozen of these bullets left and will use them but will look into others to see how they perform for comparison.
