growalot
So this am I had to take care of another health exam before turkey season...I do these before deer and turkey each year, then relax. I was right there so decided to check out Costco's..never been in one. Just another Sam's except for appliances I'm surprised they wouldn't give a buying day pass...I was allowed to " looky but no purchasey " ..lol Anyways I chat up an employee and they are telling me about the GREAT return policy. Well that brought to the forefront my pre-christmas hair clipper experience with Big lots...where the clippers upon inspection before wrapping landed me with a lap full of someones hair and skin..OMG...Anyways they tell me they take back EVERY THING...except big appliances ther is a 30day thing on those. I said every thing ??? Oh ya bread, meat, produce, not beer because of NYS laws on that! WTH. So That pretty much flipped my tummy ...thinking of restocks and I have no need for Costco's..... Oh and apparently it happens a whole lot and I would be surprised! hahahaha......... Edited April 12, 2017 by growalot
Marion
I think we may need a translation. But my interpretation of these written words was that you enjoy Costco now and are considering a membership. Is this correct?Sent from my SM-G935V using Tapatalk
moog5050
Wegmans will accept all food returns too pretty much without question but that does not mean they resell them. Returned items are discarded. Restocking food not maintained under the stores control would present a real liability concern. It's just good business for them to accept the returns and take the loss.
growalot
No I have a Sams club membership and they are about the same but...NO WAY would I shop there, Costco's, knowing that they take back food products that have been bought there...and this is a quote..." You'd be surprised how often food ,bread ,meats, produce and milk are returned. See they buy a lot for parties and they put aside what people don't eat and after they bring back the unused food"... You think all that unused unopened food isn't restocked...I worked in retail, I trust no one... I mean how much would be too much loss before they start restocking? growalot
I'm not sure you can compare Wegmans to these big Box places...nor do I believe you could ever compare the management either...Nope that conversation is firmly planted in my brain... dbHunterNY
i'm with Moog. i'm sure they take back a lot but certain refridgerated and frozen goods i'm sure they don't restock. company would have a lawsuit waiting to happen. only way around it would be if they made you sign something to take the fall if you return that. you'd never read all the fine print but just sign and take your return money. i wonder how it goes down. that's a big reason i hunt... seeing a package of steak on the self in the dry goods or cereal isle. you know someone somewhere is an idiot making executive decisions while putting it back in the coolers.
The_Real_TCIII
Trust me, they dont restock it. They "shrink" it and more often than not bill the manufacturer. Same if it goes out of code

Yep those types of thoughts most of us try to suppress while shopping...You had to be there listening and watching this person talk about it...lol haha nope that conversation is glued inside my brain... grampy
The cost of just tossing returned items, is nothing compared to the potential loss they would have if someone were to get sick.
Marion
They definitely do NOT restock food products. No store will resell any returned food item. Sent from my SM-G935V using Tapatalk
First-light
Costco does not restock its returned food. It's a great place to shop to save money buying in bulk.
BizCT
Many people don't know this, but you can return anything used to Nordstrom's. It can be jeans from 20 years ago with stains and rips, and they will accept it.

They don't even sell snow tires
growalot
Listen guys I know the liability to that...It was just a conversation you really had to be there to hear and see... I was in the catering business as a club manager ...not even staff was allowed to take home unwanted unserved left overs. Though like dbhunter pointed out it actually does happen..I know when stuff on a checkout counter is put aside because people changed their minds...I can sit there longer then they realize and you can bet...it didn't leave the store, it goes back to the cooler. Stock kids don't even think when they find something, back it goes... Anyways things people stick in your head...I know Sam's takes things back...I left Costcos and dropped 496 at Sams with out a passing thought....,But she wasn't discussing Sam's policies. So my disgusted meter was off...

Wait until you have kids. $400 is a normal weekly grocery bill at my house. That doesn't include stuff forgotten on first trip.
