Hunter007
I saw one that is feather light 4 pounds chambers 3 inch shells and takes beretta chokes the other day made by Midland or imported by them its a proven 1950s Beretta design I am told I'm guessing it will group no worse or better then most smoothbores . Which is more then enough for the ranges I can see in the woods I hunt 50 65 yards . Any body else play around with them . Any problem? I should know about . Buckmaster7600
Touching off a 12ga slug from a 4lb gun isn’t on my to do list. I have handled a couple of the midlands and if they ever come through with their promise of making multiple barrels I’ll likely own one.Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Rattler
If you use TruBall slugs in a smooth bore, you may be very surprised how accurate they are. If you use a rifled choke tube, you may find very good accuracy from it too. If you shoot a 3" slug from a 4 lb 12 gauge, that's gonna leave a mark.
turkeyfeathers
http://www.hr1871.com/firearms/shotguns/ultraslug.asp Dont forget about the 20 gauge as an option. Edited September 29, 2018 by turkeyfeathers

Yep i figured as much dont care that is what i use in my other shotguns of course there all 8 plus pounds . I will get a better recoil pad for it if it really bothers me that is all . Btw they are going to come out with bunch of centerfire barrels for it . A plus for the price I have to get one even if I dont use it much . G-Man
had a single shot 12 ga smoothbore , the slug would hit the ground 50 yards in front of you if shoting at a target 2 ft off the ground at 50 yards when standing . needless to say didnt use it for deer hunting. that being said there are some that are amde for slug hunting and i would use those. rob-c
My dad started me out with a H@R single 12, it made me a better hunter because it made me slow down and aim. We dropped it off at a gun smith when I turned 16 (back then was the age you were old enough to hunt deer) and he installed a flip up rear dove tail. This way I could use it for small game and slugs . I killed a bunch of deer with that gun, used to carry 2 slugs slid between my index , middle and ring finger on my left hand for a quicker reload . I did get pretty good at reloading it quickly . Geez I hunted with that gun from 14 to about age 30 or so. Always shot 3 inch mags out of it too, ahh to be young again. Bigfoot 327
My best friend in high school had an Ithaca Super Single (I don't remember the gauge) that consistently shot about 18 inches low and 18 inches to the right- no matter who fired it. He never used it for deer hunting. Later I had an in-law that used a single shot 20 ga. He carried slugs between his fingers on his left hand (as described by rob-c)and he often killed deer with one shot. But, when he needed to he could accurately fire that single shot so that you would think it was a pump!

For the longest time I always wanted light weight carbine length take down backpacking gun that could be used for both big and small game hunting . If I can get decent accuracy with a slug out of it . This maybe used more then all my expensive firearms. And for the money you cant go wrong .
rob-c
Funny thing is I got out the old H@R single this year before turkey season and shot some 3 inch turkey loads, needles to say I carried the 870 -12 for the season. Apparently I was tougher or dumber when I was younger..
moog5050
Phade hunts with a single shot HR 20g. Accurate for sure and he reloads really darn quick. He has killed double does on numerous occasions when I hunt with him. I recall walking with my son a couple seasons ago through a bedding area to push does to brad. Sure enough two jumped up and a few seconds later I hear bang bang. There they both laid.

When I get it, depending on how accurate I can shot with just a beed I may mount some rifle iron sites on it, or mount a little red dot . Not sure exactly until I get the thing in and try it out at the range . if I can, shoot slugs well out of it with just a beed I will leave it stock, will see what happens Edited September 30, 2018 by Storm914
