If there is anything I hate it's having some dumb ass looking at me through his scope ! I have screamed at guys a couple times and called them about every name in the book . One said "well I wasn't gonna shoot" . I suggested they get a pair of binos , even if they were cheap ones .

All it takes is for someone getting careless and pulling the trigger by mistake .

We were doing a deer drive and we have a standing rule that the people on stand stay in the stand untill all the walkers are out of the woods.as the woods are thik and deer will double back presenting a walker with a shot 9 out of ten times. Well one guy saw some deer and got out of his stand after taking off the orange vest we lent him to go see if he could sneek up on them. Deer were between the walkers and him..fortunatly the walker saw something wasn't right and didn't shoot..boy did he yell at that guy!! Result he no longer is welcome to hunt.

Sure I try to be cordial to all hunters that I come across, but there have been times when I have simply lost it and went off on some over the years.

There have been the trespassers that I have no patience with since my lines are posted such that when approaching it you are always within sight of at least three signs. I purposely set it up that way to avoid any excuses.

And then there have been a couple of guys who have been a bit careless with where the muzzle of the gun was pointing as we were conversing. Things like watching the muzzle of a 12 guage swing across my mid-section, of my knees, kind of set me off a bit.

Then there was the guy that was so drunk that he could barely stand up. That guy was standing about 50 yards away from my house. I gave him a bit of a lecture and sent him on his way. I found out later that I could have had him arrested for hunting while drunk. If I had known that, I definitely would have. What a menace!

I try not to yell at people period. When I do loose my temper I tend to use alot of curse words. Now a guy who walks on our property I let him know he is on private land.If we catch the same person a second time I well yell curse scream and belittle that person untill he is out of sight. Some times I might walk right to the line and sit there with the yelling and cursing in full swing.

There are some looney's out there, so I think it is better to be cautious on what you say to someone and how you say it.  Wasn't there an incident in Wisconsin a few years back where someone opened up on and killed a bunch of hunters that confronted him for being on their land?  Now we will never know for sure how they confronted him, but knowing how some hunters act, I would bet that they didn't say "excuse me sir, do you realize that you are on someone else's property?".  I wouldn't be surprised if it were more like "Hey, get the bleep off my land you bleep!!".  Doesn't make it right for someone to shoot in any event, but like I said, there are looney's out there, and it don't take much to trigger rage in some of them.

That's the one, Doe.  Subsequent reports said that the hunters confronting him used racial remarks when they first walked up to him, and some reports stated that they even fired the first shot into the air.  Like I said, we will never know for sure what happened, and it surely doesn't give anyone the right to shoot and kill people, but things can get ugly real fast if one doesn't use their head on the side of caution.

That's why if I didn't have private land to hunt, I probably would not hunt at all.  I prefer not to deal with strangers when hunting be they good or bad.  Same goes with non-hunters.  When hunting I prefer to be hidden away from them.  That is the main reason I would never hunt small suburban lots.  Sure the hunting can be good, but I prefer not having to knock on someones door asking if I could retrieve a deer from their backyards.  Not my cup of tea!

I guess the next time someone eyeballs me through a scope I will try to be more cordial .

"Excuse me sir but would you please not look at me through the scope on your loaded gun and please take your finger off of the trigger and put your safety back on." That might be more politically correct . Yeah , right !  ::D

there is nothing worse then careless hunters... ive been fortunate enough to not have that happen to me as i would not be happy at all with that individual. The guys i hunt with have never and would never, its just that simple... the bordering neighbors? well i dont know, but lucky for them none have ever raised the gun up at me scoping things out. but it doesn't surprise me that this happens often as there are some guys who are not very bright.

I've been shot at on several occasions while hunting and trapping throughout NYS.  The worst one was while I was in my tree stand on opening day in the southern zone.  I was had to relieve myself, and while in the process a doe walked directly under my stand.  I had no intention of harvesting her, and continued on with my business trying to finish up as quickly as possible.  To my surprise a hunter from the state land had wondered about 50 yards onto our property and opened up on her while she was standing underneath me.  He was probably 40 yards from us and he didn’t even come close.  Luckily I wasn’t hit.  That’s the first time I let loose on another hunter.  Then I sent him down the road so that he would cross paths with my grandfather and get another ear full for trespassing.

Probably I have a little faster temper than most, but there are some things that will send me off the deep end in a hurry. When it comes to safety violations, that gets me going the fastest. It is probably a fear reaction that comes with realizing just how hazardous some of these situations could have become. Another thing that will send me spiraling to near out of control is someone dis-respecting my property owner rights by trespassing. I just can't understand that kind of attitude and it's not the kind of thing where I feel much like turning the other cheek.

I never ripped a hunter.  I always thought that an idiot with a gun is not a good thing anyway.  Why make it worse.  I have explained to a few that what they were doing was not safe etc.  it did no more good than "ripping" them.  I did however at the range once rip a guy and throw him out. I was shooting 100 yard targets with my nephew and there was a guy shooting a handgun.  We called all clear and went down to check targets.  While we were down range, this idiot opened fire.  I waited until he was done walked back up and proceeded to tell him what an idiot he was.  He said well there is no way a bullet from where could get to where we were, and he was aware we were down range.  I am on the board of trustees for the club, so I kicked him out.  He was at the next club meeting complaining.  He got his dues back and was told not to return.

I alway like the phrase i was shot at..really? maybe they shot in your direction or near you....shot at would constitute a criminial violation of attempted murder...  i have been close enought to several slugs to hear them whistling by but have never been diliberatly shot at... which envolved yelling what the f*%$ and see the hunter head the other way quickly. I would really hate to think of someone shooting at me directly on purpose. of course if i did that to someone i'm pretty sure i would hit them.

Actually there are cases of someone shooting at someone else almost every year. Many of the fatalities are listed as "mis-identification of target" as the reason for the incident. That means the shooter was aiming at the victim. So apparently it is not as rare as one might hope.

However, I do agree that some percentage of near misses are probably due to being in the wrong place at the wrong time.

G-man ...I was shot at....when your in a 16ft tree stand and the person is close enough that 20 min. before gun opener they actually have to raise their gun in the air to have the slug whistle past your ear at 18ft...hitting a branch 5ft from your face that snapped back and hit you...well thats being shot at....mind you I wasn't wounded or dead so no report and no investigation..."you know they'll just lie any ways"

I know exactly what happened....thought they'd scare me out of the stand with a "close shot" but it bounced of the tree limbs
