Have you ever ripped another hunter ?

Actually there are cases of someone shooting at someone else almost every year. Many of the fatalities are listed as "mis-identification of target" as the reason for the incident. That means the shooter was aiming at the victim. So apparently it is not as rare as one might hope.

However, I do agree that some percentage of near misses are probably due to being in the wrong place at the wrong time.

I guess if we are going to nit-pick , it wouldn't be a "near miss" , it would be a "nearly hit" !  ;) ... :D

I alway like the phrase i was shot at..really? maybe they shot in your direction or near you....shot at would constitute a criminial violation of attempted murder...  i have been close enought to several slugs to hear them whistling by but have never been diliberatly shot at... which envolved yelling what the f*%$ and see the hunter head the other way quickly. I would really hate to think of someone shooting at me directly on purpose. of course if i did that to someone i'm pretty sure i would hit them.

i think he meant it figuratively speaking...  if someone is opening fire in my general direction i would constitute that as being shot at LOL, even if it was involuntary... i would like to think there arnt guys who would deliberatly do that in the woods but now a days, who knows...

Back when I was 13 I was trapping along a creek for muskrats, coon and mink.  The property in Vernon Center it was private and I had permission to trap it.  I was wearing my blaze orange hunting coat.  This was in February, big game season was long over with.  While walking through the creek I heard shooting and could watch the limbs breaking and the bark flying all around me.  I could see the individual 100 yards or so away and instantly started yelling.  The SOB reloaded and shot again.  I call that being shot at.

The angriest I had ever become (long story, posted in the B/O thread a while back) was when hunting State land during gun season, I passed up a shot at a doe because by the grace of God I saw a hunter in the line of fire dressed completely in buck skins and elected not to shoot.

When I confronted the guy at the parking area ( I was damned near apoplectic), he acted like a cigar store Indian. Some of us who hunt California Hill in Putnam county probably have seen him. ???

Be on the look out for this guy! ???

For those of you shot at..did you press charges? grows you have your own problems but could go to a higher agency. really your talking about attempted murder. most shot at stories are in  line of fire, mistaken identity, or truly accidental..it happens and probably continue to happen as long as there is more than 1 person hunting/shooting at any given time.

Hey, did anyone read the story in ODN about the conviction of the guy who shot a hunter in PA? The story is nuts, the shooter was an convicted felon/lawyer who tried to do this huge cover up. There are some scary characters out there, be careful when confronting them. Check out the story if you can.

DING DING DING!!!!!  We have a winner!!!!

Does the name Chai Vang ring a bell?  Most of you older hunters probably remember it.  It does everytime I confront a trespasser or have a problem with some wingnut in the woods.

Get their name, license number, anything but avoid the name calling and swearing in the woods..

wait a second... you were shot out more then once?? lol

are you sure your are wearing blaze orange and not a target on your back? jeez! lol... thats scary

I used to have a huge orange coat that went down to my knees.  They called me the Great Pumpkin at camp.  I wore that coat for trapping, small game, and big game.  It eventually gave out on me.  :)
