left field
I don't think it meant to illustrate who or what kills more people as much as a representation of just how infectious CV is and how quickly it's moving through the world.
Rattler
Global Deaths Due to Various Causes and COVID-19 Various causes AND COVID-19?? The title of the graph leaves lots of room for inflating the number. I'd have to see the detail breakdown on the numbers to even begin to give it any credibility/
Rattler
1% of the population accounts for 50%—or more—of America’s COVID-19 deaths, the country needs to pursue appropriately focused policies. Specifically, nursing staff in nursing homes and long-term care facilities must wear masks and intensify their sanitation efforts. Beyond that, we must do universal COVID-19 testing in long-term care facilities. Testing should include not only residents, but also staff, at those facilities. Rattler
COVID-19 update: Let's check in with Sweden, the country that never did lockdown thing & isn't asking people to wear masks. COVID deaths over past week: 32. How did this happen? The "public health experts" & epidemiologists told us the entire nation would be in flames by now. left field
https://www.businessinsider.com/sweden-opens-inquiry-into-coronavirus-strategy-of-no-lockdown-2020-7 Quote ~ Sweden has launched an inquiry into its no-lockdown policy after thousands of coronavirus deaths in the country. ~ Sweden now has the fifth-highest per capita death rate in the world with a larger death toll than all of its neighbours' combined. ~ Sweden's daily new cases rose to over 1,000 in the last week, up from fewer than 500 in May. ~ Sweden's prime minister said the country must now change its approach. Sweden's prime minister has ordered an inquiry into the country's decision not to impose a coronavirus lockdown after the country suffered thousands more deaths than its closest neighbours. "We have thousands of dead," Swedish prime minister Stefan Lofven said at a press conference on Wednesday, while admitting that the country's handling had exposed Sweden's "shortcomings," The Times of London reported. "Now the question is how Sweden should change, not if."
Rattler
Sounds ominous, but it doesn't jive with the death rates going down now, nor does it explain the high death rate among people in Sweden who were isolated from the population. "approximately half of Sweden's deaths have taken place in its care homes, The Times of London reported."
left field
Right. So people who were isolated in country that tends to isolate at the best of times, got sick and died in a national attempt to develop a herd immunity. Only 7.3% have developed antibodies, they had the highest numbers of death of all the neighbouring countries and the economy still took a massive hit. Quote Speaking in an interview in Stockholm, Finance Minister Magdalena Andersson said, “We haven’t taken economic considerations when we have decided on the Swedish strategy.” Sweden’s softer lockdown has resulted in one of the world’s highest death rates, relative to the population. At the same time, Andersson said in May that her country was facing a “very deep economic crisis,” with GDP set to sink about about 7%, despite the softer lockdown. Rattler
According to Newsweek editorial director Hank Gilman, Sweden’s “lighter touch” approach was a failure because seven times as many people died there than in neighboring Scandnavian countries such as Finland and Norway. He is not alone in the assessment. On the other hand, Sweden suffered far fewer deaths per capita than several European neighbors that instituted strict lockdowns—including Belgium, Italy, Spain, and the United Kingdom—and has avoided some of the economic fallout other nations have endured. Unlike other countries, its currency is growing stronger. https://fee.org/articles/3-states-account-for-42-percent-of-all-covid-19-deaths-in-america-why/
left field
But on the positive side, Sweden did slightly better than countries located some 1600 miles away. Countries that were hit first before anyone knew what the hell was going on. Countries where the cultural norm is to live in multi-generational family homes so a pandemic spread is expected. Whereas the standoffish, and solitary (but oh so sexy) swedes live alone and see their families a few times a year so perhaps one would see a slower spread. Yet their approach saw a seven-fold more deaths than the other Baltic countries and they are now a worldwide cautionary tale. Is that your argument? Rattler
I don't argue, I debate. Sweden is simply being attacked by leftists because it dared to disobey their commands and proved to the world nobody should.

Sweden is simply being attacked by leftists because it dared to disobey their commands and proved to the world nobody should. Sweden is 173860 square miles with a population of 10.23 million people. Comes out to roughly 59 people per square mile. Italy is 116347 square miles with a population of 60.36 million. Roughly 519 people per square mile. There were 5526 deaths in Sweden. 1 per 1851 people. 34945 in Italy. One per 1727 which yes is slightly higher (7% higher). But with a country that is almost 10 times less dense and you have close to the same amount of death rate?
Rattler
You think the deaths were evenly dispersed over the population geographically, as opposed to concentrated in certain areas that had similar population densities? Why?
Elmo
And you think a country with 10 million people over 170K sq miles has "similar population densities" as a country that's 110K sq miles but with over 60 million people or the same number of "concentrated areas"? Why? Stockholm has less than 1 million people.
Rattler
I think you need to investigate where the deaths occurred in Sweden.

I must have missed that in the last "Sons of Karl" zoom call. They tried a novel approach that many, including yourself, advocated - don't shut down. They saw more deaths than neighbouring countries who did shut down with little positive effect on their economy.

Sweden refused to comply with globalist demands and therefore must be made to look bad. Similar to how those in the US attack Florida and Texas. Figures don't lie. but liars can figure.
