I find that the higher end shells tend to drop them hard. Only two birds that I shot with heavy shot flopped, the rest just went down with out a twitch 3" TSS

You can.do it completely in 1 hour and it will never rot .. simply fan out on cardboard and trace outline , then simply pull the feathers and clean ends with a degreaser ( dish soap and rubing alcohol ) then simply lay a fender washer on cardboard. The large tail feather start from outside ends and stack in b the middle. Then hot glue gun to washer. Place another fender washer on top amd repeat with next set of feathers starting in center and working out. Add smaller washer and do last set of feathers , screw to board thru whole in washer and glue feather over it . Or cap with leather. Nothing to ever rot or absorb water and harbor maggots. This one is from 98, and this one was my first in 94 Edited May 4, 2020 by G-Man

Lol , my uncle the taxidermist showed me this method years ago, as salt.attracts.moisture and so does borax. A few years in the tail fan falls apart if exposed to humidity... this way it last forever and can be on your wall same.day bonus is if missing a feather can shift or add another to fill in Edited May 4, 2020 by G-Man

This one is from 98, and this one was my first in 94 That's a smart way to do it. Zero meat or fat to rot. Makes sense.
