My wife ordered some type of beef intestine that was pretty good. The had cuts of meat I’ve never heard of with 7 levels of doneness.

No fish porn. I've only taken two take pics of live fish. Both times (Iceland and Tulum) at the insistence of my guide for their promotional purposes. Just not my thing.

Honestly, the empanadas are out of this world. We found a place in San Martin that featured a local venison that was great. If I could figure out a way to survive on the four major Argentine food groups: steak, empanadas, ice cream and wine; I would.

Whenever I travel, I always seek out the local equivalent of a sandwich. Preferably from a street vendor. I've never been let down.

Don't have that pic. I do have this one. Split lip and broken tooth from protection training a particularly hard malinois. The owner didn't tell me he had trained the dog to go to the face.

Cool trip; very scenic and while not driven by the fishing necessarily, Patagonia has been growing on my radar to visit. How was the trip to get there? My wife isn't the world's greatest traveler unless it's to a beach; hope to get there some day but it's a coin flip.

That hook to the face....I felt that.

I had an earlier version of the article that was more traveloguey but my editor knocked it down.

Buenos Aires is about 13 hours from NYC, but it's an overnight flight and they are only two hours ahead, so it's an easy trip. The domestic airport is about and hour away from the international and then the flight to Bariloche is 2 1/2 hours. You could do that in a day but BA is beautiful and worth spending a few days exploring. 

When I go back, I will do a more extensive road trip through Patagonia and consider the Chilean side and the Carretera Austral trip. 

If your wife wants a beach, Punta del Este in Uruguay is close to BA and beautiful, however, I would look at Central America - Panama, Nicaragua, Belize, Costa Rica, for a pure beach trip.
