My only semi auto centerfire rifle is my M1 Garand...

I pretend the deer are KRAUTS...Hehehehehe...

Semi auto rifles just never appealed to me..Funny thing, too, because I have used semi auto shotguns all of my life...I've killed more deer with Remington 1100s ( both 20 and 12 gauge ) than with any other type of firearm.

I love semi auto rifles and own a few of them, but they are more of the tactical type than hunting rifles. Once had a Remington 742 Carbine in .308 too. I find them to be much heavier and slower on the draw for whitetail than my preferred Kimber 84M Montana 7mm-08.

If you look up the word UGLY in the dictionary, they have a picture of an ENCORE....

Now a nice, sleek, walnut, blued,classically stocked bolt action with a sensible scope, such as a Leupold fixed 4X or 6X, now THAT is a thing of beauty..<<wink>>

They're only ugly when fitted with one of those pea shooter barrels (smaller than 35 cal) They just don't look right shooting BB's. Fit with a proper mans barrel and a Leupold VX 3 1.5-5 scope it's a thing of beauty that is appreciated by all real men.

Encores and boring bolt actions pftth!!! You guys need a Remington 750 semi in

30-06 like i got. I can nock them down with the first round, gut them and hang'em up with 3 follow on shots all as fast as I can pull the trigger.

What a waste of ammo. Thats what happens when folks use them little bullets. Get yerself a 444 and take them off their feet, gut em and hang em all with one shot. I once bagged a deer that I missed. The breeze from the bullet coming close was enough to do him in.

Naw, to rich for my blood $50 for a box of corelocs. Ill stick to the 30-06, when hunting season rolls around 30-06 corlocs go on sale for 15 bucks for 20 and you can find them anywhere in a pinch. That way I can clear a few trees out of the way first then shoot the deer and not break the bank. Plus being semi auto it will hurt a lot less to.

I never owned a semi auto centerfire, YET!

Although, I did own a Amish Machine Gun for a few years. I think it was my 2nd CF rifle. 1st was a Savage 110 then I got the Remington 760 .308Win in a LH configuration. (just the stock & safety were LH, factory issue)

As far as semi auto shotguns, I never owned one until I was an old man. 38 yrs old. <grin> I got the Benelli SBE in '99 and then the 20ga Montefeltro a year later. Why did I wait so long?

I've put thousands of rounds down the tube on the 870's and 37's and killed toooooo many deer with them but they don't get much action anymore. Both of those models are bullet proof.........

Oh ye poor misguided soles. 444 are bought for 20 to 25 a box. Factor in that when using it I'm only shooting one shot, regardless if I am clearing trees or not, and it quickly becomes clear that the single shot 444 is much more economical than the auto loader spraying bullets through the woods. I never thought much about needing to get bullets in a pinch but I guess if yer using three to down gut and hang a doe plus needing even more to clear trees I can see how ya might need to find some from time to time. My little girl says that her 06 hurts less too.

hey i hunt with a 444 also. i have been using flex tips in 265gr but i reload the 225gr ftx so i don't have trim back the cases. i have killed 2 deer with the 225's. but they run way to much a 1 ran adout 6 feet and the 2nd one went about 3 feet.

I love how my Stainless Encore looks, with its 44mm variable power scope and sunshade on it.

Larry, the case length still needs to be trimmed if it has exceeded max length regardless of the bullet you use. It isn't the overall length of the cartridge you need to worry about. If the case is too long, it extends beyond the chamber area into the bullet area of the bore and causes a very tight clamp around the bullet. That can cause huge pressure spikes when the cartridge is fired. If you are not seeing signs of pressure spikes, you probably haven't reached that case length yet. The point is, if those cases have exceeded the max length allowed, they need to be trimmed no matter what bullet you load into them.

of course i trim then back when i need to but to load the 265 flex tips you have to trim the case to2.065 in stead of 2.225. that would make them to short for other bullets. i do have cases for the 265 flex tips but only 20
