Hello, I got this buck on the opening Saturday of the 2011 Bow season! He is a monster 10 point. 19 1/4" width and 10 " G2 tines. He field dressed at 202 pounds. I am in the process of scoring him and it look like in the low 130's! When I woke to the rainy weather, I wasn't sure whether to go out or not. I decided why not, I'll go to the one stand I placed near a 20 acre Pine thicket surrounded on one side by corn and the other side by an overgrown golden rod thicket. I figured with the rain and wind they might be bedded near the Pines. Boy did I call that one perfect!! At about 8:15am, I noticed a small tree about 60-70 yards away going back and forth vigorously! I watched it for a few minutes but couldn't tell what was making it do that. All of sudden I saw horns going up and down on the tree. I stood up in my stand, grabbed my bow and blew my grunt and snort wheeze at the buck! All of a sudden at a steady walk he started walking right toward me, huffing and puffing with his chest out and horns held high. I started to shake like the tree I was in(b/c of the wind). He stopped at about 45 yards, looked around and guess what" He laid down behind a downed tree". I didn't know what to do? He laid there for over an hour. All I could do was watch him. I didn't have a good shot. I then had to try and calm myself back down. At about 9:20am, I was going to break some sticks in the tree to get him up. Then I spotted movement to my left and down another trail comes 4 small Does. Those Does came right in and milled around my stand. The Buck spotted them and got up! He started chasing the Does around my stand for about 5 minutes. I couldn't get him to stop. Finally, the one Doe laid down and he started nudging her with his horns to get up. He was broadside at about (I figured to be 30 yards). I had some small brush in the way but I had some openings. I drew back and whack, I smoked him! He kicked out(ran over the Doe-she limped away) and ran through the woods like a freight train. I never heard him go down. I was going to give him awhile to start tracking but right then the old heavens opened up. I had to get down before all my blood trail would be washed away! I got down and found my Carbon arrow with the RAGE broadhead(bright red blood with bubbles) I knew I hit lung. I started tracking and found gobs of blood here and there but not constant. I got to the Golden Rod field and lost all sign of blood.(the rain seemed to be washing it away) I started doing small circles in the field and nothing. I was bummed. I lost my father this past spring so I looked up in the sky and said Dad help me out, you got a heck of a better view than I got. Where is he? W/in 30 seconds, I had this thought to go North alittle in the field and then ver to the West and head towards this briar patch. All of a sudden I walked up on a spot where he fell down and blood was everywhere. I went another 20 yards and again he fell over. I looked into the Briar patch and there he was all piled up! I will say this, my father helped me find that deer! It was pouring rain and I needed alittle faith! That buck went over 150 yards on a complete cutoff of his diaphram, one lung and the top of his heart. Amazing! This is the biggest bow buck I've ever got and probably will for a long time. I love hunting!1 point

Best boots in the world are Muck Boots! Any style will work just fine. Like WNY said the boots are rubber so it keeps in the heat well. They are at an awesome price.1 point

O God, thank you for your creation, for the land that sustains us, the game that feeds us, and the hunt that blesses us. Grant us wisdom to be safe. Grant us the patience for a clean shot, so that we might be good stewards of every life you give. Amen. Good luck to all on the opener this Saturday... !!1 point

I consider myself just a hunter, but yes I hunt with a bow, as well as a handgun, shotgun, rifle, muzzleloader and when I get a good deal on a crossbow, Ill hunt with that too.1 point

My bad. Initial cost 65. Renewal 15. Good catch. I just couldn't see spending the 80 for the course and 65 for the initial permit for total of 145. I spent 20 for PA and have similar reciprocity as Utah.1 point

The road into my lot goes about 1/2 mile in (private road). About 3 times now when driving out, right near the end where it dumps out on to the public highway, I have had deer run in front of the truck at the same spot, in fact it happened yesterday.. I saw my great uncle walking the road last week and we stopped and talked and he said "Deer are always walking through here".. This part of the road is actually state land as the road is public then turns private after a 1/8th of a mile. I don't know why it never clicked, but today I am going to hunt that little section. Here's to luck!1 point

Yea ill be going to try my luck the guy doesn't want me shooting my rifle off because it's near his house but i didn't really want to hunt them with a 22 anyway i don't like to chase them if i don't have to!Plus im doing him a favor so he shouldn't be so picky lol!!1 point

It is 1/2 acre. I put down 1000 lbs of pelletized lime (a little at a time througout the summer) and 200 lbs of 10-10-10. I have since learned that I should have used more nitrogen. But it came out pretty good anyway..1 point

I had to laugh at an interview with one women at an encampment, I dont remember which one. But basically she was crying about how all the homeless were showing up at dinner and eating all there hard earned food that they had scrounged up and expected them to feed them free food. I had to laugh at the irony. I'm not defending what wallstreet, or the goverments of the world have allowed to happen in the name of greed but you have to laugh at someone who supposedly stands against corporate greed and for trickle down poverty complaining about how people expect to receive there food for free. I especially like Obama's job bill he keeps touting. He claims it will put construction worker's, police, and teachers back to work. And who are the majority of these kinds of jobs affiliated with? Union's! Does he really think we are that stupid that we can't see he is just pandering to his base. So lets put billions of dollars into putting a miniscule amount of people back to work and let millions not in unions be damned. What an out of touch, hypicritical bunch of jerkoffs. I saw an article in cnn the other day about who the richest 10 members of congress were. The top 4 or 5 were all Democrats.1 point

Found this list, pretty good stuff. Tells you what type of roadways run through state land parcels so you have some idea before heading off to the woods.. http://andyarthur.org/fodder/landpolicy/dectrucktrailda.html1 point

As long as a person plays by the rules, it is a personal choice what to and what not to harvest. Who am I or anyone else to say it is wrong or right. That is why we have laws. Ones personal choice is just that, a personal choice. I guess after the years go by the thrill of the kill diminshes and the joy of the hunt takes over, which has me looking for something I want. Does that make me more ethical or a better hunter umm nope. Again it is a personal choice. One guy I hunt with has been hunting 15 years. He has harvested a few does over the years. This year he shot a 5 point 135 pound buck at my camp. He was proud as can be, and I was very happy for him. Would I have shot that deer? Probably not. Was I glad he did and he was happy with it. You bet I was.1 point

I am going to smell like car exhaust. I am convinced deer love the smell of exhaust and are attracted to it. I will put all my camo over the exhaust pipe until they stink real bad, and then go out in the woods.1 point

I use ALL Free and Clear year round for my cloths. It doesn't have any scent. I got the tip from an article by Bobby Worthington of North American Whitetail Magazine. I only use baking soda to brush my teeth.1 point
