The STATEMENT FROM THE COMMANDANT OF THE MARINE CORPS is BS. I would love to have his explain the behavior of the Armed forces after their landing on D-Day. Ask him what was done to German captives during our advance. They were advancing and not able to readily takie prisoners. They were executed. No press, no poor public opinin. German sniper in a French church?. the church, the block and anyone close was taken out during the artillery barage. There is only one way to win and that is to beat them into submission. We did that in WW2 but have yet to do it since. Korea...Vietnam...and every 2 bit hell hole since. The press is there now and the American public doesn't have the stomach for what it takes to win. You can hide behind all to "we are better than that" and "morality" you want but we will remain targets and more will happen on our soil until they understand there is no measure we won't take to win. This is war. Until there is a realization by our enemies that they will be hunted down and killed at all cost, that the destruction will be beyond their understanding, that no target or area will be safe, that none of their family of friends are safe, we will NOT we be able to defeat the enemy....any enemy.

The marines are guilty of not doing this. It supposedly worked for the Russians and General Pershing. I thought marines were supposed to rip off heads and crap down throats. Where is the outrage against Obama and Billary on this? Bush, Rumsfeld would be crucified. Oh wait that's right, Obama is asking for more money today. Can anyone say diversion?

Guys just send the GOV"T all your money and they will take care of every freeloader they can find. And you will get nothing in return. OBAMA say's just pay your fair share, well what about the 51% who pay no Federal income tax? What's their fair share????????????Sorry they are the people who voted for him!!!!!!!!! My personal view is if you don't pay federal taxes you should not be able to vote. JMHO I know some may disagree.

I agree! Until you've been in the field getting shot at, you can't sat crap! I agree this is putting more marines in harms way, but they already are in the $&@t. People need to rethink some of their actions in this day of "instant news" with facebook, twitter, youtube and email. From sending a reply all when your email should of went to one person or video taping pissing on a corps, it all looks bad.

Let's get one thing straight. This war has nothing to do with ideology or religion. It is about money and power. Plain and simply. Do you really think we went into Iraq looking for weapons of mass destruction? Iraq was sitting there minding their own business. They didn't bomb the WTC. But Bush saw the WTC as the perfect time to invade Iraq and gain some control of their oil. He could not invade Iraq for no reason at all otherwise everyone would oppose it but right after the WTC bombing he knew he everyone had a lynch mob mentality. So he took the opportunity to sell the public that they going after WMDs and so many people bought into it. The same is done on the other end. The Taliban and Al Qaeda does NOT represent Islam or the Koran. They use that to brain wash the locals to allow them to do what they're really out to do...gain power and control of their land. They tell the villagers "you have to back us because we're right and we're just!" but the truth of the matter is that they don't actually follow the laws of Islam or the Koran. They use it as a front.

So we drop nukes on every country that doesn't agree with us until they finally agree with us? Sort of like a tyrant? Break up the UN and then we tell everyone they should adopt democracy?

The Taliban has been more than brutal in the treatment of our troops and civilians. Hacking up bodys, burning bodys, televised beheadings.. etc....I think we ARE leading by example when our troops only piss on dead Taliban, who were killed while trying to kill our troops. The military cant condone this (because of PC) so slap them on the wrists and move on.

I am not one to condone breaking the law.. and I don't know exactly how the law is written for the area.. but I just don't see the huge problem here... at least not on a level to start another feud with a neighbor... I had a similar situation with my neighbors when they first moved in next door... I live in the country as well... my neighbor was burning some old building material from a downed barn next door... it was a bonfire and the smoke from smelly old wood engulf the surrounding neighbors... i calmly went over and introduced myself and started making small talk mentioning that he had quite the fire going... he laughed and said "yeah, there is a lot of that old barn".. I then said in a friendly way to him " Just be careful.. there is a burning ordinance in the area... a fire that size might cause a problem with the neighbors... I think I'd keep the fires small so they don't get too out off control"... then I offered to burn some of it on my firepit that we use for night time campfires.. he immediately let me know that he wasn't aware of the ordinance and would reduce the fire to just a small camp fire size... I helped him burn the remaining wood structure and offered my 12' trailer to haul anything that wasn't burnable to the dump. We cleaned up the area in a weekend and he and I have become good friends and good neighbors... he has always been appreciative of the help and how I handled the situation. I have since told him that it was my way of telling him that I wasn't happy with what he was doing at the time...but didn't want to create a Hatfield and McCoy relationship with my neighbor... we laugh about it now.

I guess you guys are right. Let's disregard the permit system the DEC has put in place. Let's just not take the number of deer they anticipate. L'ets not perform the role they expect from us (killing the number of deer they want killed). Let's let them find another way to control the population. You guys act like we are talking about a hunting season for an endangered species. Doc is talking about taking 13 deer on 20 acres and it being the end of future hunting. 13 deer arent living on 20 acres. bottom line is MOST hunters in the state are not siccessful in filling the tags they have. Some hunters are. It all works out to numbers for the DEC. some areas may take the brunt of the harvest just because of access. If that area is good deer habitat the deer will be back

Point well taken.. but I still don't think this rises to the level of jailing war time Marines... disciplinary action yes.. there still should be a greater standard held by our soldiers....

I guess we should just lower our morals and ethics to the level of our enemy . I always thought The Greatest Nation on Earth held higher standards than others !

Whether 4 or 13 did the shooting, the final number is still 13. And I bet not one of the 13 deer cared a bit who killed them. If done legally, I am not going to judge them or critique the motivation - especially without knowing a lot more info then we have available on this thread.

Gotta disagree. We are all human, however evil some actions are (plenty going on even here in the USA), and I believe this nation should lead by example. If it were the other side doing that it would be World War 3. Nobody is above the law, not police, not marines. Always keep in mind nobody chooses where they are born. We are fortunate to be born in this great Country. I wouldn't put them in Jail, but definitely make an example and discharge. Gotta have honor even in times of war.

This could be important because your plot is very small and the deer may totally wipe it out by summer. If you avoid using a spectracide you can go back in late summer and throw down a quick growing annual and be back in business for bow season. Lots of annuals have some sort of broadleaf in them and you may not be able to take advantage of this option if you spray with certain spectracides. Just a thought..

All great advice but i just had one thought G-man. I know clover produces it's own nitrogen but i still think he is better off with a 20-20-20 to start with. The clover needs the nitrogen to get started and then from that time on simply maintain the plot with a zero N blend. I don't think i've ever been given a lab report that didn't require N at planting time for clover.

been hunting stewart for 30 years grew up on drury lane there used to be alot of rabbits there along with alot of grouse. havent seen a grouse in 6 years and only a few rabbits here and there deer population is going down to. to many people shooting everything that moves over there.

Doing anything is better than nothing, yes there are a lot of specfic clovers developed for deer. but there are a lot of deer that still feed in a farmers hay field after those "cattle " forages. The only way for these specialty seed blends to out draw natural forage is for the conditions to be perfect for them. For 90% or more of food ploters they do not have the equipment nessary or extra $ to do it proffessionally. I recomend doing what you can afford. face it if you do a 30x30 spot perfect it will draw deer and dissappear fast maybe before you can even hunt it .but 2 acres of an affordable seed and prep will last a lot longer. White clovers draw better than red. Do what you can afford to do to the best of your ability. i personally would rather do a larger plot without top $ seed then only be able to afford a small plot that may be eaten down before season comes. Every property is different and what may draw on one may not be the draw on another, if your surrounded by ag cornfields, planting corn probably wont help you. same as clover /alfalfa fields, planting more clover wether whittail specfic or not will not be as big a draw as a different planting. everyone gets sick of the same thing all the time, deer do to..
