Finally got the barrel, permit, all stocked up and ready to go. It is a 308 winchester barrel and I have loaded some reduced recoil rounds to play with it a bit and get used to it. It is shooting great (little dirty burning but not too bad) Shooting 130 gr bullets first picture is at 100 yards the second is at 50 yards. The squares are 1" squares. I tried it out at 200 yards yesterday. i need a little better glass for that. THe drop on the round was 15" low at 200 yards. group was still good just pretty low.2 points

I know we all worry about getting the kids out there before other distractions set in, but I believe that creating a life-long sportsperson (you like that politically correct term? .....lol) involves more than just getting them out hunting. I think too much emphasis is put on slamming a gun in a kid's hands and sending him/her on their way with the impression that the only thing of value in the outdoors is hunting. That creates a far too shallow view of what hunting really is or can be. I believe that the emphasis has to be put on the whole package. That being, camping, hiking, fishing, woods-lore, maybe even some trapping and all other kinds of learning and understanding of what is out there in the natural world. If you can indoctrinate a kid into the appreciation of all activities involving the outdoors and things of nature, there will be no problem having them become a dedicated, life-long hunter regardless of the age. It then becomes a natural follow-on activity as they continue to pursue their appreciation of what a nature-based lifestyle can provide. Hopefully that is something that the parent can have input and a direct effect on. So getting back to the idea of the original post, I would say to bring him along (if he wants to) even if he's not able to hunt. The experiences and the exposure to a different kind of adventure in a different kind of outdoor place, sure won't do him any harm and it will help cultivate some more of that over-all outdoor experience and appreciation that I mentioned.2 points

Heard on the news at noon. Wegmans has cashier (s) that are Muslim. They refuse to handle any pork products or alcohol. Wegmans is having to post a sign on the line where these cashier (s) are working . Asking to respect their religious views and move to another line if you have any of these items in you cart. Wegmans is really stuck here. one wrong move and the laysuits will start. What are your thoughts? My view, ringing out items that come down the belt is a condition of employemnt for that position. If you don't want or can't do that then apply for a different position. It isn't like they held the position and all of a sudden Wegmans decided to stat to carry pork products and alcohol. If I am allergic to peanut....do I apply to Planters and expect them to make it a peanut free environment? What about the athiest at Halmark...do they refuse to ring out cards that have to do with Christmas or Easter? I am about at a 9.95 out of 10 on the fed up meter1 point

I would agree NFA-ADK. For me I would put the 44 Mag at the low end of the Medium game round. 50 yards and in. I carried my 357 last year and that was mainly because...well.....because I finally could...lol. I will carry it again but it is a back up and mainly to finish or a quick close follow up with my ML in shotgun areas.1 point

I agree, its not the preferred choice for some hunters, others swear by them though.1 point

I would purposely go to their line with my ribs, bacon, and beer and give them a nice happy smile. We all have to deal with inconveniences everyday. Suck it up and drive on. This country has become too damn sensitive. If for some reason I chose a job that went against some belief of mine I would find another job or deal with it. It is not that difficult...1 point

They don't want to be cashiers and its not about them handling them pork. You need to watch www.thethirdjihad.com to understand what is going on. Muslims know they must break this country down from the inside out. They are doing this all over the country and filing lawsuits every chance they get. Go to Amaxzon and buy a book Islam, educate yourselves and your children before it is too late.1 point

This country started to really go downhill in the last 30 years. Mostly due to entitlements and lawyers. Everybody wants,,,, but not willing to go and earn it. I am white and am discriminated against in many ways. United WE stand. Divided We fall.Open your eyes Americans..1 point

That was a nice group you guys had at Art's. Wish I had known more about this site before the shoot, we would have joined you. Myself and my buddy Frank were the guys shooting on the paper targets while you guys were finishing your first round. We shot while you guys were doing the second round. Thanks for the offer of lunch, that was very generous. Maybe the next event you host at TOTH I will be there. Heck, I am a club member and shoot in Art's Friday night league. Great place, Art's a great guy and the shooters there are always helpful and fun. A real family place for a day of fun or a place to let the hectic week melt away with some friends while shooting the course. Anyone interested in winning a bow (new Diamond Deadeye), The club members are raffling off the bow in order to purchase exotic targets for the range. Art will have raffles at TOTH and I will have them on the weekdays at Suffolk Trap and Skeet. So far I am leaning towards a bufflao and an alligator for a far and close shot. But Art will have the final say, it's his range. How did the Hunting NY member with the broken Mathews limbs make out? I had my Bowtech Destroyer let loose on me at TOTH while Art was watching my form. It was a painful and scary experience. That happened one week before opening day and fortunately for me I had my Mathews Xtreme as a back up. Let me know how you made out with getting new limbs for the bow. It was nice to see a bunch of guys from a forum show up for a meet and a shoot. To support their local shooting ranges and sports.1 point

DEC is now recommending the creation of a uniform age for Junior Big Game licenses, allowing youths to start hunting big game with a rifle at age 12. The bill is now in the State Assembly.1 point

I'm all for it... she just better have a girlfriend that likes to hunt so she'll have some company.1 point

Thank you "BurmJohn", and all the sportsmen who make huntingny.com, the best NYS hunting forum, and the sport of bowhunting so exciteing and challenging. We designed this facility to increase the success rate for bowhunters in the woods, while at the same time making it both fun and challenging. Thrill Of The Hunt can be somewhat intimidating the first time, but as the stations progressed, and the "hunters" started to relax, and the form returned, their arrows started to find their predetermined spot. It was indeed a pleasure for Marilyn and myself to host the first huntingny.com field trip, and look forward to a repeat event later in the year, prior to the hunting season. Thank you all for your support, and for strengthening the "Brotherhood Of The Bow"1 point

When we were first married, my wife used to run the trapline for me during the week. I was working some heavy overtime back then, and couldn't handle a line that size during the week. This involved about a 2 mile walk some of which was a pretty steep climb, and then some mucking around over in the swamp. Rather than seeing me shut down the line, she volunteered to help during the week. To me that was going way above the call of duty.1 point

Not sure how anyone figures Tebow doesn't have what it takes... they don't just hand out the Heisman Trophy to anyone. Sometimes it just takes a bit for a guy to shine in the NFL. he certainly has the talent and the ambition.. now he just needs playing time.1 point

A 9mm will work, but you gotta untie your boots, drop your pants past your butt, hold your "piece" sideways, walk up to that sucka' and bust a cap in his ass.1 point
