New Hunter score on this doe. It was perfect doe without fawns . He was supper excited. Doe was taking in 8N . Giving God at the glory.

I’m definitely thanking Him for this “fatted calf” that He blessed my wife and I with last night: I can’t wait for a fillet mignonette sub for dinner tonight, and I’m really looking forward to the liver.

For me that is what I love about hunting, even if no game is taken it was a good day. Al

This old photo reminds me of a spot I used for hunting both Deer and Squirrels. There was a big old hollow log like the one in the picture laying on a side hill overlooking a Beech grove frequented by both Deer and Squirrels grubbing for Beechnuts. That log made a perfect blind for concealment with the big old log in front and the hill behind I could tuck in there and dry gulch game using the log for a steady rest. I used it for the last time a few years ago killing a Deer with my Marlin 44Mag, It is rotted away now, I pass by what is left of it just about every fall and it brings back some good memories. Al

Well I've been lucky this year , I was selected to get a DMAP for the Alcove . Just have to attend one of the Orientation Meetings and then hunt whenever !

I see the difference now in the bars. This is to cover the early antlerless season in part of Region 8 and 9. Somewhat confusing.

Back when I hunted the Southern zone in the slug days I would make some corral type blinds, they worked great the first few days when the woods was full of hunters pushing the deer all over the place. These days I am a still hunter and mover so when I sit or stand I use whatever is available, mainly big trees to back up against or sit on stumps or logs in camo. As you say scent and wind are key along with keeping still. I have had Turkeys and Deer walk right by me up close and pay me no attention. Al

Sitting on about 15 acres of forage. Out at 6 pm. Young and old alike. Sure nice to be out for another season!

Have made brush blinds in the past. They work great with scent control and play the wind. Have a large number of ash to come down which will support more. Just itching to saw down as they are covered in poison ivy.

A great morning under cloudy skies with a temp of 60 degrees. A ton of movement. Deer, fox, coyote, turkey, rabbit, squirrel, and a rooster pheasant. First one in three years. He crowed in the distance. All antlerless deer with smaller fawns. Doing some reading, I see where our area are in antler restrictions now. When did that sneak in? Makes not difference to us as we have always practice that. I personally don't see the need for a law on it though.

Army won today 57-0! My Daughter said she was bringing about 10 Cadets to the tailgate it was 20! lol All the food went we all had a great time!!!

I visited my FFL yesterday and asked him if muzzleloaders will now require a NICS check and was surprised to hear he couldn't say for sure. Apparently, most FFL's have not been adequately informed on the details of the law taking effect on 9/13. He said confusion is very high and many are angry about it. He's not sure where this will lead or how things are going to shake out, but he doesn't think it will be good.
