  3. Got this guy on cam then arrowed him during bow season not because I was targeting him, he just responded to a random grunt call in the same spot as the camera. Another benefit from the camera is finding out I have trespassers on my property, some guy walking his dog. I’m a mile off a paved road and have to 4x4 a logging road to access it and surrounded by 1 and 2 hundred acre private lots. Not sure we’re this guy came from.

  5. One thing you can be pretty sure of when it comes to varmints killing livestock, they will always return to the scene of the crime. So about 45 minutes before dark I took my Remington 597 22 mag autoloader which is set up for moderate range varmint hunting down to my cattle run in shed, it overlooks the barnyard where my chickens and other fowl reside. I set up in there hoping to catch the culprit attempting another kill. The whole barnyard is surrounded by page wire fencing and I could see where the critter dug underneath and pulled the Turkey hen through exactly 100 yards in distance from my stand, that is where my focus was and I did not have to wait long. Under the fence crawls a big old Coon headed right for the coups, I got the crosshairs on him and touched one off, I could hear the bullet plunk and he took off back toward the fence but I sent two more shots into him and that was all she wrote. I had just checked the zero on this rifle a few days ago and it was dead on, I had the magazine loaded with Winchester 40 gr full metal jacket ammo because they print in the same place as the Winchester 40 gr hollow points I sighted in with, but I was having misfires with the hollow points, good hard strikes on the rim but not firing, looks like a bad batch in that box. The full metal jacket bullets do not kill quite as good as the hollow points but will work and are more fur friendly. Al

  10. SIREN, Wis. — A 12-year-old boy shot and killed a wounded black bear as it was mauling his father near their hunting cabin in the thick western Wisconsin woods. Ryan Beierman, 43, told the Minnesota Star Tribune that he was pinned beneath the 200-pound bruin on Sept. 6 when his son, Owen, fired a shot from the boy’s hunting rifle. 11. Unfortunately I now only have access to this forum from my work computer. I use to be able to log in through Tapatalk on my phone but now even that has stopped. I tried resetting my password but with an absentee owner my request never gets fulfilled. Anyways... onto the hunting portion of this story. My daughter and I went out Saturday evening and set up in a log pile to get a jump on where we have been seeing a doe a few evenings a week. The plan worked out and she took her first ever deer in the start of her third season hunting. It was a pretty wild 15-20 min as the doe popped out but offered no shot. We where not in the best of cover so we had to stay as still as possible but you could tell the doe was getting increasingly nervous. I think she could tell something was off but we where just hidden enough and she was up wind from us. She eventually worked up the courage to try and circle around us to get down wind but she didn't even have to get down wind all she had to do is get directly to our left because at that point we are completely exposed. She gets to our left, freezes, starts to stomp her hoof at us then eventually blows and takes off running. Here's the wild part she stops 60 yards away completely broadside just blowing away almost like she saw us but we somehow still had her confused. My daughter acts fast gets the gun on the doe and whispers "I'm shooting" I just simply replied "take it". Her gun goes off and the does front legs tuck into her body while she crashes to the ground and bulldozes and flips for 10 second before dying within site. High fives some hugs and probably a few tears of joy where had. Even though we knew the deer was dead and not moving we sat back down to let it all sink in. After about 10 min I have her get her tag out and start filling it out. At about the 20 min mark we slowly work our way over to the doe, thank her for her sacrifice before taking pictures and getting to work. This is a day neither of us will ever forget and has probably taken over as the best day I've ever had in the woods.

  13. Hunterman My brother has the Browning Model 71 and had stopped shooting it because of the cost. We have recently began to reload to save money on ammo Also to be able to shoot the rifles that are in calibers that are difficult to find or to expensive. it was not difficult to learn and there are plenty of forums and web sites to help. You can also get some reloading books and read up on it before hand . We kept it simple by getting a Lee single stage press from Cabelas. Definately look into the reloading side of this sport it will help to keep that fine rifle hunting.

  14. Because TV continues to hang on every word she has to say......Even Fox. When you come down to it, the Democrats have willingly pronounced her some kind of major spokesperson for their party. I can't for the life of me understand why that is.
