  2. My Brother and I were in tree stands from 6:45 until 11:30 AM. We dressed for it. We each saw a small Doe and were happy in the end and sort of patted ourselves on the back for hanging in so long. I think it was 26 degrees with a 10 mph wind. Had a great Brunch 1 hr nap and was back at it by 2:00! Up again at 4:30 ready and able!

  4. Hunting is my ...mental therapy. I dont think about anything except being out in the woods, what the critters, weather, whatever are doing....It is about the only time I can really clear my mind. I particularly love hunting the slop. I tend to shoot more deer during fronts, or when it is really nasty...short of a gail. I love being out in the force of nature....but then love even more getting back to the nice warm cabin to enjoy ..not being out in it! I sure as hell though am not very happy about the storm just hitting up north, where I want to be come sunday night after I get out of work!

  5. When I was a boy we took the 22’s to school and left them in the principals office. I don’t remember a day that I couldn’t bring something home for dinner. I don’t eat much store meat and there is always something to bring home, if I don’t find something in the woods I’ll pull it out of our pond

  7. Did the same thing Thanksgiving morning.. Shooter locked down on a doe. Dinner would have tasted so much better with success.

  8. We try to introduce as many kids as possible up here. Had a 14 year old get his first buck. Here is something to ponder. I'm leaving my place to my two Daughters, I'm 61 and need a will. One hunts the other doesn't but has shown interest. I will have in my will that the cousins that hunt up here all still get that right when my kids own the place. Again in place I want my Niece and her husband have right of first refusal if the kids decide to sell. I want hunters here. I don't think my girls will sell but you never know.

  9. Gun laws are not really for stopping gun crimes. They are intended to harass gun owners and encourage us to give up our firearms. No one has any data that can say that any of the laws has discouraged gun crime. The fact is that the more laws and harassments they throw at us the more gun crimes increase. The only way to get the government off our backs is through the vote. We have the power if we ever choose to use it. We did a damn good job of shutting down any new federal gun legislation, now we have to get that sort of thing happening here in this communist state. But it takes dedication to our gun rights. It takes not only our ow votes, but activism to get others out to vote, and to vote correctly. The hunting community may be shrinking significantly, but the numbers of gun owners is growing. We should not be getting over-run by the anti-gun pinkos.

  10. Overnight session the skipped due process and created the SAFE act ignorant of many basic facts. The overwhelming one is this. #1. Criminals don't obey laws and really don't care about you making a new one. Especially those that are for actions that are already illegal. The background check system is now being used in a way it was never intended and is overloaded. This could be fixed but they really don't care since the agenda is to drive the firearms business out of NY. Like Remington. Sadly, many of these gun shops are Ma and Pa businesses that have been around for generations. They will not survive as so many are gone already. They were "Cracker Barrels" of people with like interests.

  11. Are we seeing the demise of hunting. Oh I'm not talking about in a few years, but I have to wonder about a few decades from now. There definitely is a trend going on and it ain't good.

  12. I’ve taken at least 3, 3.5 yr plus bucks from large blinds, including one from the upper deck of each of my two-story truck cap blinds, and one from an 8 ft elevated 4’x4’ platform with 3rd barnwood walls on 3 sides. Those were all during the peak two weeks of the rut when they are not thinking clearly or at the top of their wits. The largest bodied one charged in shortly after I cleared about a foot deep of leaves that had accumulated in the upper section. There was a fresh scrape nearby and I think he thought that noise was another deer visiting the scrape. Certainly they are tougher to fool outside of those two weeks.

  14. Don’t do it, get yourself a good blind with nice overhangs to catch the rain: I do it for the meat. I like the taste of free range venison better than beef and it’s way more fun than raising livestock or shopping.
