  1. I had the most satisfying season that I can remember. My daughter got her first deer during the early antlerless season. Then she got another doe during the special youth season. We have spent a lot of time in the woods together and for her to finally pull it all together and to be able to experience it with her was out of this world. My eyes get watery just thinking back on it.

  2. Pulled the card today. Again crows, Eagle, Turkey Vulture and some hawks day time. Have a big Yote, Two fox and a skunk at night. They make short order of things. Something ate the ear off!

  4. I have seen the Roosevelt Lucky Buck, in person at the New York State and Erie County fairs Conservation buildings. It was also featured on the cover of the New York Big Buck Club booklet in 2013, 40 th anniversary edition by the artist Michael Barr. I'm proud to own a copy of it. I'm sure their are copy right laws that prohibit me from reproducing it.

  5. As of a couple years ago, the Lucky Buck still hangs at the Albany DEC office. It is pretty impressive in person.

  8. Gotta really wonder just how reliant they are on the land. I was on a fishing trip in Alaska several years back and the subject came up. The Captain and first mate laughed about one fellow that was on one of those shows. Basically the show had a lengthy segment of one fellow out hunting squirrels. The show made it out like getting a squirrel was a life and death issue. Long story short, they knew the guy and said he could have walked into town and bought a burger in less time than the show made it look like he was squirrel hunting!

  10. Now it is time to do for our own state what we did for the country. Hochul's busted in the polls. Zeldin almost turned things over last senatorial election. Never too early to start getting the right people registered and primed to vote the right way.

  12. Fewer hunters , for sure , but the point that hunters arent as mobile in the woods as in years past is valid as well IMHO.

  13. There may also be a correlation regarding all the land that is being locked up with leases, and the fact that there are fewer hunters per acre because of that. Another thing that I have noticed is the number of part-time hunters. There are many who only hunt opening day. There are also a lot of 1/2-day hunters......Those who go out for lunch and don't come back. This sort of thing is what makes the numbers seem not so bad as far as the number of licenses sold. But there is a participation factor among those that buy the licenses. So many reasons for the "silence phenomenon" during the season.

  14. Not just fewer hunters, but less mobile hunters. Not many hunters get out of their tree stands these days and move around in the woods like years past. Most hunting accidents these days are treestand related

  15. I would think it's because the number of hunters has dropped dramatically !
