  1. While searching for hare I unknowingly awoke a bear out of it's slumber under a pine tree blow down. I was about 20 miles south of fort drum. My whole hand fit in the rear paw track plus an inch approximately. About 7 inches long. Any idea the size of this bear ? When I found the tracks my neck hair stood up..yikes! Yogi left in a hurry across a swampy creek bottom . First bear track I've seen in the area.

  2. The only recognition that counts for the hunting I do is from myself, if I think I did a good-skillful job I am happy. If I screw up there will be no bigger critic than myself. I do not give a Rat's ass what somebody else thinks of my kind of hunting and of any game I may or may not take and I certainly will not waste my time on a message board arguing about it. Al

  3. So if something happens to your password, and you try to re-join, your just plain out of luck. So it could be that a lot of people that we thought had abandoned us may simply not been allowed to rejoin when something accidently happened to their account. Ha-ha-ha-ha-ha.....perhaps Burmjohn got locked out of his own site. Hey! That's not funny.

  4. The wind was in our favor and this male was dropped at 18 paces with the Impulse 22-250/XP50 LRF. The dog to the left got lucky and disappeared as I was letting my buddy that couldn't see the dogs coming in know one was coming in and real close too. SJC

  6. I think luberhill was open up on the neck area. I remember they posting a cam pic later in deer season, where it still looked pretty bad

  7. I could see some kind of almost head-on shot with a broadhead doing that. It's hard to imagine barbed wire staying engaged with the deer's hide long enough to do that, but I suppose anything is possible. That's pretty weird that we have two pictures of deer with that same kind of wound, isn't it?

  10. I also agree with Grouse regarding the effects of the anti-hunting organizations. While we were laughing at their idiotic antics and ravings and never took them seriously. Their outlandish claims and tugging at people's heart-strings and their well-funded organizations were converting more and more people. Some of the converts were even hunters. I hate to admit it, but they are winning. We are getting beaten by a bunch of crazy wackos. It's probably way past time to admit that, but it is looking like fact. That along with so many cultural impacts is threatening the entire activity of hunting nation-wide.

  11. A lot of good points being made here. First let's look at a couple of definitions: The definition of hunter: noun 1) a person who hunts game or other wild animals for food or in sport. 1) a person who searches for or seeks something: a fortune hunter. Heritage: noun. something that is handed down from the past, as a tradition: I have mentored a number of people including my own kids that are now grown up. I also have a number of relatives that "used" to hunt. Exposure does not seem to be the issue. A number of them including my kids have almost no interest that has to do with anything related to the outdoors. They are hunting the easier life with a lot of social interaction. They are always looking for an easier or better way rather than going back to their roots. Finding ways to make more money and to live more comfortable is the trend today. Who wants to go set in a stand and freeze for the chance to shoot a deer that they probably don't like to eat when they can stay in a comfortable environment and have their food delivered to them. I think hunters are born and not made.

  12. I remember while turkey hunting once a neighbor lady came riding horseback by my gramps and I. She was topless. She never noticed us. Gramps just grinned and recommended I not speak of it to my grandmother. I hunted that corner alot after that.
