  1. " Hunters volunteered over 1,800 hours and harvested a total of 45 deer in less than two months. Participants in the public program harvested 43 deer while those in the Westchester Bowhunters program harvested two deer." The Westchester County Bowhunters Association only harvested 2 deer???
  2. What is becoming of todays hunt-ER? That is the question...
  3. hang it when it's cooler, like in the evening or morning. They work, it helped redirect some deer for me.
  4. One of those news reports said that it was first reported as a 150 pound leopard! No wonder why we have mountain lions in NY.
  5. I don't always drink beer, but when I do...stay thirsty my friends.
  6. For 4 parcels that total 1 acre, it is $1650 per year for school taxes. This is vacant land in dutchess county. The assessor's office says it would be less if the parcels were combined, but can't tell me how much. They said that 1 acre is assessed at $100K!!! There's no BOHA on it either. I'm coming to a farm near you!
  7. I saw a guy waiting to pick up his shotgun at wally world. This is what he said in front of the sporting goods clerk who was getting it. "I gotta get them before they come for me. I don't give a #*-#, I gotta be ready" -
  8. I have 1200 gram Rocky boots. They are awesome...as long as you're sitting! They're heavy and kind of bother my knees if i walk alot.
  9. Didn't happen, it's all propaganda. You can't trust those democrats! j/k
  10. I'm testing my remington Ghost DGX5.0 right now. It's ok in daylight, but last night I had white pix with standard flash (not LED). I'll keep you posted. When this cam first came out there were numerous problems. Chasingame.com has a wealth of reviews.
  11. Geno, how much are the pellets costing you per season?
  12. Hey, welcome back! I remember you. You hunt in rensalaer state forest, right?
  13. It's not too far from one of my spots either. It's very close to Ninham Mountain M.U.A.
  14. From foxnews.com New York Man Escapes Injury In Bear Encounter Updated: Wednesday, 25 Aug 2010, 8:35 AM EDT Published : Wednesday, 25 Aug 2010, 5:40 AM EDT BY LUKE FUNK MYFOXNY.COM - A man escaped injury with a bear encounter in his Putnam County yard. A 37-year-old man lives on Hemlock Trail Court in Lake Carmel. He reportedly got between two bear cubs and their mother. Lake Carmel Fire Chief James Hauth said an ambulance was called to the man's home after the confrontation but he declined medical attention. The bears are still on the loose. Despite the large bear population in the New York suburbs, attacks on humans are rare. In an infamous case from 2002 a black bear plucked a five-month old girl from a stroller in Fallsburg, N.Y. After a chase by the parents, the bear released the girl from its jaws, but she died of her injuries. In 2007, people shot video and took photos of a huge bear that wandered through Putnam neighborhoods. There are an estimated 6,000-7,000 bears in New York. The Department of Environmental Conservation says that black bears may be found in all areas of upstate New York. They are found in forests mixed with open areas and wetlands. They are also found in farmland and are sometimes attracted to cornfields where they may cause great damage. An average adult male weighs about 300 pounds while females average about 170 pounds. The largest bear reported from New York weighed approximately 750 pounds. http://www.myfoxny.com/dpp/news/local_news/new_york_state/new-york-bear-attack-20100825-lgf
  15. Sorry to hear that. Hang in there. It will only get better.
  16. On 101.5 WPDH in the Hudson Valley, they were talking about this. Coop & Mulrooney show. Their whole point was that "C'mere deer" was a funny name for a deer atractant. They thought it was so funny. They said that Nugent pleaded no contest though??? Overall, what I heard was not good publicity for us hunters. It kind of irritated me and would probably irritate most people here. They made some negative and incorrect comments/statements. Then to make things worse, they replayed the segment in the evening to advertise for the morning show.
  17. The forum for arguing and was less moderated. off topic type stuff too. like the "General Chit Chat" forum if it was sent to detention...
  18. If you remember where you took the class, that helps too. Last year I got my brother back into the sport the same way.
  19. Welcome Bushnell. I'm sure people would love to hear your experiences on the antler restriction thread.
  20. It makes sense, but that recent PA report says it's 50% the does genes and 50% the bucks genes. So does culling even work in the long run? I'm second guessing tha logic now. I'd like to see more proof that the bucks genes only contribute 50% of the offspring characteristics.
  21. "If you leave inferior spikes to breed they will produce more deer with a genetic disposition to produce inferior racks." How do all of you feel about this statment?
  22. This is another issue I see. if the property is so small, chances are, you will have to go on another property to retrieve it. maybe that's why it's set at 500ft?
  23. Thanks Muckland. I guess people have "consent" of their neighbors. (the ones within 500 ft)
