might want to consider ironsighter scope mounts (see-thru). I have them on my Marlin 336, Work well with a strap on cheekpiece. I have Williams peep sight and can use either. (Also have pop up scope caps that work well)

had prostate cancer about 16 years ago. Had the seed implementation by a good urologist and a good "nuke" doctor. Worked real well. been cancer free since then, get a check up twice a year. Was no surprise since my dad and grandfather both had it. Hope your test turns out negative, but its not the end of life if its not. -
and really hot in a classy way

up in Northern Oneida County and Herkimer County, we are having a bumper year for grasshoppers (several species). and the poults are chasing them around the fields. Some broods are small sized, maybe re-nests.

they should be in the pokey until the trial. did they get released with a appearance ticket?

coonhunter- I've had a couple of years that we got a early snow that developed a crust. The beech nuts dropped and the wind blew then into depressions and cradle knolls. I went out with a dust pan and a broom and got to lots of them. And it was years that did not have a lot of worms in the nuts. And ya, the deer were working them hard. Now we seem to get few years with good beech nut crops.

porous rocks can explode, like sandstone. Supposedly limestone can, although I've used it and it never has. Granite and gneiss are probably o.k.

And DaveBoone had a good comment about using the NYS Atlas and Gazetteer (published by DeLorme). Lots of natural resources proffesionals have one right by their desks and can give you good leads over the phone if you both have one in hand. you might want to talk to the foresters that are in charge of the different State Forests, they have the best knowlege of each area.

I will be following this thread for hints. My hunting buddy and myself have been asked by a mutual friend to make him into a deer hunter. He (and his wife) are mainly interested in getting a deer or two every year for venison. Should not be hard but neither or us have had to think about how to hunt. We grew up doing it. He has about 150 acres of brushy land with lots of apples to the south of one of my leases with lots of deer. will be able to get him a 6K permit in addition to his buck license. Need to chill him out and make him calm. He wants to use his .44 magnum lever gun which should be o.k. if we emphasis shot placement. so I will be following the thoughts and ideas here to see what obvious instruction we have overlooked.

with my mistrust of horses, you had me believing you till the unplugging.

What Airedale said. It is 30.2 miles from the I-81 exit to the Verona exit. Probably 3 miles beyond this is The Gun Works of CNY on NY Route 31. About 45 minute trip. Very good, not very cheap.Call ahead. Mention that you are a NYSRPA member (if you are). They used to knock a little off.

Robhuntandfish- Your mentioning Pitcher Pond reminded me of being on pitcher pond road about 18 years ago. During muzzleloading season, I came up behind a guy driving along slow, scoping out the woods/brush on the side of the road. I was almost to a spot where a doe and twin fawns had been hanging. He coasted to a stop, and the barrell of a muzzleloader slid out. He was about to shoot when he looked in his mirror. Where I sat in my DEC vehicle. The gun slid back in and he was back on his way. I was quite amused.

Rob- would have been amusing to see that guy "wrassling" that bear onto his trunk (especially if it was over 200 lbs.)

i have been on Chases and Brantingham a lot. More for socializing with folks, rather than fishing. Spent a ton of time on the state land around that area, especially around the horse trail area.

In Lewis County, some folks would carefully guard the location of their best grouse and woodcock coverts or favorite brookie stream. But there was another group that was even more closed lipped about where their frogging spots were. They would park a long way away and walk indirect routes.

Young of the year? Good year for avian predators around here, lots of voles and chipmunks.

WI Tall Tine Tubers plot 3 weeks in

for more even coverage, divide the amount of seed you are going to spread in half. do half the passes lengthwise of the plot and the other passes at roughly right angles. Makes a more even distribution in my experience. roll or drag in. Have had pretty good luck with just slowly running over the seed with a atv. -
having a air leak can cause the mixture to lean out. If it is too extreme it may damage motor.

great rack and a great buck. Some species of chestnut, probably american but it could be a hybrid or chinese. Is that mechanical damage or a canker on the base of the tree?

my 5' by 8' tin house shooting stand has a swing out urinal with a funnel that runs down to a buried 5 gallon bucket with 1" stone in it. The 3 guys that use it the most are all over 70 years of age. Would be annoying to have to get out of the stand to piss besides scaring off bambi.

have seen broods with 9,9,4,and 2 poults. But also hens without any poults, including two groups of 4 hens and several single hens. I also thought that conditions would have been ideal for larger groups of poults.

I don't know if its exactly dedicating my season to, but I always think a lot about two men who were instrumental in my deer hunting career. The first was my dad. He was just a casual deer hunter, but when I became interested in hunting taught me all he knew and took me small game and deer hunting all the time. Most of my friends were not as interested in hunting especially when girls and cars became a option. The second was my cousin who was my hunting partner for many years. Both have passed away, but I think of them whenever I think about hunting or have the good fortune to take a buck.

what foresters did you use for the marking? Are they doing the sales administration?
