  1. I saw this advertised online. Do you think it would work? https://niccomstore.com/pages/fish-hook-detacher?fbclid=IwAR1lw-uuz71mlr_Ho0mlowA7E1BMLTtaM9PbjLTdveBA9JU0WZcAFKoy9BI
  2. Yes it did, a shame that things have to take that turn so often.
  3. Rattler when he saw that this thread was moved to the Political sub-forum...
  4. Political Discussions. It had pretty much become nothing but political over the past day or 2, so it probably best belongs there.
  5. Huh, I see this finally dove hard enough into politics to get moved to the "Political" sub-forum. It's a shame that most things devolve into politics, but probably for the best that it got moved.. I just hope everyone and their families stay healthy, and for those who are sick or have loved ones who are sick, I wish you and your's a speedy recovery. Take care and Godspeed everyone.
  6. Nice lot there, someone will have a versatile set up. Not something I need right now, but good luck with the sale!
  7. The press release that I read says that it is temporary, April 15th-June 30th. Obviously, this could change based on necessity, or even someone recognizing it as a revenue stream. https://www.newyorkupstate.com/outdoors/2020/04/dec-offers-complete-online-hunter-safety-course-for-limited-time-only.html?fbclid=IwAR0C0jHJAWiZDAyq3lFIPmAMumcSCk11KDsXB92uMUB9_IUCTsGq6j4mQXw I agree, the hands-on field work is important, and working with several Hunter Ed Instructors myself, I know that the personal touch provided by knowledgeable instructors is irreplaceable. However, if it helps get more kids in the outdoors, I'm all for it.
  8. I'm fortunate to have some solid contacts with the Sheriff's Dept. as well as pistol safety instructors and such. I don't think I'll have much issue, and I do have several people to help answer questions. I'm just waiting until I know my parents are going to make it out here before applying. I don't ever plan on purchasing another handgun, but I will enjoy having my dad's old K-22 Masterpiece. I have some fond memories of plinking with my dad and my brother using that gun.
  9. It still lists "receipt from a gun dealer of the handgun to be put on permit" on the Saratoga County permit application.... https://saratogacountysheriff.org/wp-content/uploads/2019/04/2019-Basic-Pistol-Application.pdf
  10. So, looking at Saratoga County's application packet, one of the requirements is "• Have a receipt from a gun dealer showing the handgun that will be on your permit." This is where I'm kind of confused. https://saratogacountysheriff.org/wp-content/uploads/2019/04/2019-Basic-Pistol-Application.pdf
  11. Just shared this out with our 4-H kids. Thanks for the heads up!
  12. I really don't understand the pistol permit process. The way I understand it is that you cannot own a handgun unless you have a permit, but in order to get a permit, you have to have a handgun to put on it, is that correct? My dad is wanting to bring out some of his guns this fall (hopefully), and wants to give me a couple of handguns. I'm not sure what the process looks like for this, whether we need to do a transfer, whether I just need to get the SN and such and apply for a permit. I'll cross the bridge when I get there I guess. On a related note, in Illinois, you had to register through the state police for a Firearm Owners ID (FOID) card to have a firearm in your possession if you were over 16. Under 16 needed to be with a responsible adult who had a FOID card. These were renewed every 10 years. You had to have a FOID card in order to purchase firearms (long guns and handguns) and ammunition. Long guns had a 24 hour hold to purchase, and handguns had a 72 hour hold. Up until 5 years ago or so, private purchases didn't need to be documented, but I know that has changed since I've moved. It's interesting to see the differences and similarities between the states.
  13. Anyone else watch Forged in Fire? I usually find a chance to watch each week's episode on demand. I enjoy watching the forging process, and actually learn quite a bit. One of these days maybe I'll give forging a shot....
  14. I have always primarily hunted with a climber. Always pack in and out, I've seen too many peoples things get stolen or vandalized. Thanks for the advice!
  15. So that's another question that I have, and I think you've answered it. I was wondering if the public land with trails shut down their trails during hunting season. I'm planning on primarily hunting public land during bow season, and hunt the little bit of private ground I have access to during gun season.
  16. Nice looking bow! I shot some Diamonds years ago when I was looking at single cams, and they were a smooth bow. I'm glad you like it.
  17. Looking at Parcel 45, Daketown and Saratoga Sand Plains, maybe a few others in the Ballston Spa/Saratoga area.
  18. This year I will be hunting public land for the first time, minus one hunt on Sam Parr Lake in my native Illinois. I'm really thinking about etiquette when it comes to other hunters. Are there any unwritten (or written) rules in hunting public ground that other hunters may have been using for years? Is there a way to know where others might be hunting so that I don't encroach on that area? I'd appreciate any advice. Thanks!
  19. Two very selfless and worthwhile endeavors.
  20. I'm a 4-H Youth Development Educator with Cornell Cooperative Extension.
  21. Just ordered my first pair of Darn Tough socks after seeing them here. I've never bought anything other than Target specials, and wear holes in them in no time. Looking forward to seeing how they hold up.
