Thanks. I haven’t been able to find anything about small game passes (outside of released pheasants) so this gives me something to work with whenever I can get through to the DEC/county offices

Your Christmas Dinner This Year?

Deer Wellington -
Suffolk county owns multiple plots of land that are suitable for hunting. There appears to be a process in place to acquire permits to deer hunt, I think on a daily basis. What’s the process to small game hunt in Suffolk county land? Is this open without the need for daily permits? There’s seems to be no info online pertaining to small game hunting. Only info I can find is about archery and shogun deer hunting.

Thanks for all the pointers! I found a crazy community scrape about 2 miles from the road (no man-made trails) so I'm hoping this isn't an area frequented by many people. I'd love to see the type of bucks that contributed to the sign but my (limited) understanding is that these hot spots are largely ignored after the rut. Is this actually the case? I also found a couple of benches and spots that looked like they may have held buck beds... I'd like to see if deer are actually bedding there but I also don't want to leave my scent and blow the area out. I figured placing the cam way in advance would help with that... how long do the batteries typically last on a Reveal?

rubber boot recomendations
Versatile_Hunter replied to loworange88's topic in Hunting Gear Reviews and Gear Discussions
I had some Redhead muck boots and they started leaking after a couple of uses. I bought some GumLeaf boots and they’re very good. Perhaps overkill but they should last a while. My experience with LaCrosse waders has been that they make a good product and they have excellent customer service. Perhaps that’s a good middle price point. -
I want to place some cams in public land I hunted this year. The forests are about 2 hours out so I’ll likely opt for a cell cam. It looks like a few members here have had success with the Tactacam Reveal. I’ll probably get a couple though I’d like to learn from folks here what’s an adequate number/setup to get a good sense of what’s out there. This will be my first using cams - are people looking at pictures now to see what survived? Or is the year to year variability too large to justify scouting this far in advance? An obvious concern with placing cams in public land is theft. Tactacam sells a lock box... is this a must? What cables do you use to secure (and theft proof) it? Thanks

Vaccination
Versatile_Hunter replied to johnplav's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
No, not yet. We know the vaccine significantly lowers your risk of becoming ill. Yet, there is a chance that you may still be infectious for a limited time if exposed, and so for the sake of others continue to wear masks after you’re vaccinated. We should soon know if vaccinated folks pose a meaningful risk of infecting others or not. -

Thanks for sharing. I’m itching to pick up a fly rod for the first time. Did they offer you any chinchulines? -

Voting Irregularities
Versatile_Hunter replied to Doc's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
All major lawsuits that had the potential to delay the outcome of the election have been rejected on the grounds of no evidence. There may be a statistically minuscule and insignificant account of voter error or fraud, but as with all previous elections, these are highly infrequent and inconsequential and certainly to not amass to the widespread, election turning voting fraud accusations made by the president and his hacks. -
Voting Irregularities
Versatile_Hunter replied to Doc's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
If something is so obvious that it resides in the realm of common sense, proving it or at least presenting some plausible evidence of widespread fraud should be easy. Thus far, every lawsuit brought forth by the administration’s legal team has been dismissed (even by conservative judges) on the grounds of no evidence. There is no widespread fraud, just a sore loser of a president who was too unhinged to hold onto a presidency that was his to lose. It’s over now - may the country move forward and heal. -

Channeling your inner Maureen Corrigan, I see. Keep at it, perseverance is key. A Promised Land arrived today. If it’s anything like his previous books, I’m in for a treat!

Trump is a terrible businessman. The only way he’s made money was by making a spectacle of himself on tv, and that he did quite well. What risks have you taken for your vast success? It’s sad to see how you try elevate Trump when he clearly doesn’t give 2 shits about people like you, outside of how it serves his vanity.

I have a problem with people politicizing basic human compassion. This becomes even more problematic when the potential outcomes (in this case, tolerance) has absolutely no practical negative effects on the lives of its opponents. Your issue with this is purely psychological and reveals to everyone your limitations and insecurities. There is nothing to indicate that the nominee is less qualified than any of the others who were considered. Furthermore, the benefits of the message that underlies this powerful symbol of progress and acceptance is impossible to quantify.
