Pretty white i think its last year and its classed hard white. Your dog may be responding to your hand smell. The end was possibly not exposed to the sun as much or in wet shade.. Fresh sheds often have blood or dried blood on the base.

Thats a stud!!! My favorite buck hunt is a giant dead doe and a shed in the same trip.
-
I figure if it slips ill make buckskin with it. Seems pretty easy if you are dillegient with fleshing and salting fast. Im using orange bottle and following directions exactly.
-
I did. Its pretty simple but I dont have the right tools for fleshing and it really is tough on my hands.

I think soft grunts are regular language.... I just dont hear it often in nature. Do your thing

I coughed once with a whole bunch of gloves and fabric covering my mouth trying not to make any noise and a 2 1/2 year old 7pt came running at me to his death. There isn't a rule book for this. It's listening on these forums to other hunters experiences and using your past to make the best choices you can. Personally I dont call much unless I have some deer hung up I can see and they won't come my way. I like deer to feel safe and in their natural environment it seems the easiest way to get them to do it dirty.

Looks like a buck to me too.

Is it still worth getting out before daylight

This isn't post rut necessarily, its possibly even second rut. Many does that weren't bred will go back into estrus agian. 28 days after the peak of the first rut. Presure has taught the deer to be much more cautious but if you find low pressure areas you could see some amazing activity. Morning cruising can happen agian and often times the only bucks that can go the distance are the big boys. -
I've seen similar things. I think there are some places where deer really want to be. Idk if they recognize the smell. I think mostly they just hate human sent. Tough to say what else may or may not bother them.

I'm using summit viper seems awesome. Hang on and sticks are great too but its more about how you set it up as far as safety

Looking for info on good public land hunt in wnYy

Watch hunting public nys hunt from last season. Any public near ag. Problem is pressure may be up now -
Buzzards gotta eat.... same as worms. My man Clint says it best.... im sorry it happens to all of us. Nature will take care of it either way. Some guys punch their tag and call it. There are plenty of deer in the world and what I would suggest is to relax and shoot a little more in the off season. Scopes guns and ammo do not make a shooter.

Its tough but I definitely can't kill one on the couch or even worse at work.... I feel like Sound is my worst enemy... if the woods are loud or crunchy or the ground is dry i try to get creative. I use creeks to cover my sound and often times it carries your scent away as a bonus. Im semi familiar with upwards of 15,000+ acres of nys public so I have some land to work with. I see deer almost every hunt, sometimes its some flags but often I have some quicker shots. I sometimes let my wind blow into bedding and sneak around to where I think they will exit, having a rifle is really helpful for longer shots but I see deer dont run as much when im solo like they do on drives. I also Kinda have to work with the weather. There is no fool proof way to guarantee a kill. A successful hunt to me is getting out there and learning something.

We drive deer and windbump them all season if thats what it takes
-
I would gamble there's more than 1 hole in it.... probably more like 8 or 9, lol which is usually where the crows buzzards and yotes get started on dinner. I've found 3 dead so far. All wounded by weapons not ehd cwd or old age.
-
There are slight nuances for the whole season..... its possible to kill a buck every day of the season if you understand what the deer are doing. Many guys kill their biggest bucks in mzl season almost yearly.
-
Sometimes you can't wait for them to come to you. You need to still hunt, wind bump, or push the land you have available. Nocturnal deer don't move around much in the day. Unless your camped on their bedding your not gonna see mature bucks moving much in daylight. Stateland hikes for me in the am. And sitting on best food sources for last hour or 2 of the day.

Big bucks break little bucks horns..... My favorite kind of bucks are when you find a shed while still hunting and kill a big doe at the same time!!! Can't eat horns.
-
Might as well use it all!!! I see ebay has a good selection.

Looking for recommendations on Yote setup
Kmartinson replied to UpStateRedNeck's topic in Small Game and Predator Hunting
Axis and hawk optics with a green monster green light. 243 with fmj for full pass through with little damage. If truly want 300yds its inexpensive way into it. I use all hand and mouth calls. Dogs are privy to electric calls after they get called in once or twice. -
Does anyone know if there is a local antler buyer? Or where to sell them?
-
2 weeks seems great to me. 1 week minimum
-
Hunt it blind, go in at end of season with gun and jump it.
-
Bucks bed near top of leeward ridges in thick spots.
-
Go southern tier, way upstate. 3 cars for every 5000 acres public land every weekend day and ghost town during the week
