If your not having fun you need to make a change. I break up deer hunting with all kinds of other hunting and make sure when I go in the deer woods its time to kill. I go in kill weather, in a kill location, on a kill moon, in a kill tree, to kill deer. Lots of other game to take the presure away from my deer experience.

Supposed to be 65 on Saturday .. how to cool meat down

Debone and fridge as long as possible for me. -
There absolutely can be too much pressure. Deer will stay nocturnal or move to safety zones. Start scouting mornings and evenings and dont make a move unless you see fresh sign. Deer will move more in daylight but they hardly ever give up safety. Watch the hunting public or the hunting beast to better understand public land.

I wait weeks if I can. If it gets warm it goes bad.... I debone the largest pieces and put them in the fridge until at least a week. Keep it dry and cold.

Boot leather will show you the way. Its a tough time of year to scout/hunt. Sign and deer are moving there positions on the land. Im going to walk into some lightly presured land this afternoon and set up just downwind of the best sign i can find.

Scrapes opening up in 7r, still lil slow but def. Bumping and chasing. Daylight movement for smaller bucks and does. They have been tight to secure bedding and no ag field sign at all. There is food everywhere in the woods and leaves on the trees still. Our deer aren't coming to ag just yet.

3 1/2 for turks is the only way to go. My ulti whoops me but turkeys roll. I shoot 3 inches at ducks and geese to save the shoulder damage

Chevy for this guy

Bald guy agrees, it gets chilly checking wind with your head.... I use milkweed.

I agree with the boots statement, 3rd pair of lacrosse, wont buy different rubber boots. Grew up with all of my uncles and older cousins plus my dad swore by felt and wool. However I find much different results with quality new technology in clothes. Quiet dry and warm in my opinion.

There are so many options out there. 300+$ pants should last. I would go with first light, kuiu, or Sitka before I bought the same pants again. Filson makes high quality classics, I fear they are runming on name and reputation and im not positive that they are keeping up with new technologies.. Crazy is defined as doing the same thing and expecting a different outcome.

In Southern tier my magic day is 10th, total chaos 5 to 7 days before. Its a bell curve, I've seen bumping October 22 and December 10th, everywhere in between. -

Whites are done by me for the most part. Few reds around, they like a little freeze action before I see the deer rip them up. They seem to be in corn and alfalfa in the ag. Still can eat anywhere in the woods.

This actually worked !!! Fooled a big buck !!

Not many 160s around? Somethings a.little fishy.... green score? Taped it in the field? Most 150s in ny are actually 120s.... just saying I love to see big bucks on the ground.... -

How you know when a spot has potential
Kmartinson replied to Northcountryman's topic in Deer Hunting
What season, archery is in full swing? I assume your talking about rifle season? In which case still hunting large tracks of land can be a productive way to kill deer, even with a bow. Also a great way to notify all the deer in that tract of land that they are being pursued. I try to find a balance of what land I can pressure and what land I need to avoid that will create the highest likelihood of getting my target deer. Buck or doe in my case. Im a freezer meat guy mostly. You have many great ideas. One of many things to keep in Mind is that during major foliage falls much of the sign is covered by leaves. I love fresh snow. And if you see major ripped up trails during this heavy leaf fall you can bet its being used frequently. I use my gun lots to cover large areas especially in new pieces of.woods walking from tree to tree, bedding area to bedding area hoping to get a focused steady but timely shot before the deer bounds away, all the while scouting for how I will hunt this land from a stand in the future. -
