  1. Regarding weight around 100 grain is ideal
  2. Ballistic tips blow up and make a mess too often. Stay away from them unless you like ground meat
  3. Nothing absolutely nothing better than a Sierra Gameking. Look , for one, at accuracy titles. See how many Sierra has. Lots of the controlled expansion heads are nice in theory but you can’t do better than gamekings on deer. If you were my brother I’d recommend the same. Nosler makes good heads no doubt , Sierra is better
  4. Grampy there are perhaps not firearm specific types but actual thread patterns. Many times these even change among a certain manufacturer. Some companies use another’s pattern. Say browning investor plus bring used by Ithaca. Just a small for instance. Before invector plus Browning used invector. Anyhow Op you will need to find out about thread pattern or possibly have gun rethreaded to whatever pattern you want
  5. Why don’t you try squirrels, they’re everywhere.
  6. Where’s the doe that should probably be with him?
  7. They reloading supplies eventually get short too. The difference is once your set up and have your stuff you commonly have enough for years and can weather storms like this. Just buy in bulk and forget it.
  8. From my understanding EHD is typically localized. Idk this time it seems pretty widespread. At least moving towards it. Right next to Orange County is NJ. My buddy was out at the refuge Sat. Found 3 dead deer by the water. The refuge biologist just told me another guy found 10. Apparently the biologist are going to test em. In my driving around deer are suddenly gone. Typically on some roads through southern NY you can barely drive. It seems a ghost land. Not even tracks in the mud where they always seem to frequent.
  9. Keep the wind from blowing your scent to the deer either while they’re coming, when they get here, where they’re headed. Something many think doesn’t matter but it alerts them to your presence. Makes em spookier tomorrow. As you enter or exit taking into account thermals. You need to take all this into account and I’d be willing to leave if the wind shifts bad for any of these scenarios. Before I’d go anywhere I’d check the wind. Now figure what spots are available to you wind wise. Pick one of them I used to use a compass, topo maps and the forecast. Scoutlook makes it actually easy but it’s not foolproof
  10. A really nice head and the one I’ve been using this year Grizzly Bruin.
  11. They’re a little late. They aren’t my favorite either. Prob my least favorite
  12. There’s 2 main stands imo. Summit and Lone wolf. Summit might be slightly more comfortable but the lone wolf climbs and carries much easier. My summits I have 3 almost never come. Lone Wolf is a better stand
  13. Dominant eye side is the correct side. As stated out of the 2 choices I would recommend .243 simply because of availability. The Roberts is a great round. The 7-08 is another great consideration as stated too
  14. Doesn’t it state liquid in the law? Thought it did.
  15. Urine is actually not a food source. The item you’re referring to surely could be considered. Urine in NY is illegal too isn’t it? If it is I don’t use it. The op is asking so as not to be in trouble, idk if justifying it to me or anyone will help. The op needs to ask DEC instead of a forum with people who certainly aren’t consistent or sure.
  16. Imo you’re asking for trouble. 1.5oz of scent or lure. Idk how they draw the line on lure. Call DEC and ask. I’d just find a natural food source they were coming to
  17. Hey n tell her congrats for using a bow. A crossbow isn’t and never will be one but the state is full of guys want things easy. I’m proud of her too btw
  18. Awesome! Great pic! Just an FYI the “have to shoot a doe first” thing has passed. It’s only for the early season. It’s reg fall bow now. I bet she understands that if not let her know
  19. If it’s a trad shop it’d be a good choice I bet
  20. It’s good to be excited and I’m sure everyone wants to help. I don’t wanna put a dump on ya but any archery shop won’t do. Not all talk or understand Trad. Find a Trad only or primarily shop not one that’s mainly compound friendly. You may or may not get good advice. Perhaps you could tell the area you’re in and maybe someone could recommend a place nearby to help you.
  21. There’s a lot more than a simple answer. As simple as the bows are there’s no answer like that. You do need to know if centershot as arrow needs to flex around riser If not. What type arrows? What type head. It matters. Lower draw weight need heavier arrows imo. How did you get 28” draw? Is that actual length on that bow? Should be noted tuning won’t work without proper form. You need that first
