  1. A church back home used to do a shoot in their basement in the winter. They had a challenge where you had to pin a ping pong ball to the wall while it was suspended in the air by a shop vac blowing it up. That was luck more than skill though.
  2. Crazy scary Chef. I'm glad you're okay, and I hope you and your family recover quickly from the shock.
  3. That is a great observation. I'll admit, I have been disappointed in Biden, even though I voted for him. I was very hopeful that there could be at least a few bridges built between the right and left, and outside of the one Senate infrastructure bill (which was followed by another partisan one), very little has happened on this front. I know that a lot of this is on us, and our own inability to find if not common ground, at least some middle ground. However, I was hopeful that Biden could deliver on his promise to "unite", which so far hasn't been the case. Outside of some nice statements and sentiments, very little has been done to bring folks together in my opinion. I do not regret not voting for Trump however, there is no way that was going to happen. Just too many things that I can't get over about him. However, I'm not sure if Biden were to run again if he would have my vote a 2nd time. Time will tell.
  4. The political posts in this forum have been my demise, twice. No one else’s fault but my own. I’ve done my best to steer clear of all of it over the past year. However, it’s sad to see nothing but politics on the “Recent Topics” at the home page. We can’t even have a discussion about bees without someone making a political comment… Hunting season cannot come soon enough.
  5. Politics section is at the bottom of the page bud....
  6. I've got plenty to get me through several seasons if need be. Your suggestion seems to be the direction I'm leaning.
  7. My problem is that there's almost too much information out there I really love the idea of conserving my .22lr stuff, but then I think "well I bought it for hunting, so why am I not wanting to hunt with it?". Also looking at the cost of a decent quality air rifle, I could buy quite a bit of .22, even at today's prices, if I can find it. The big thing that I went into this thought with is that I can shoot in my backyard. However, I live in a development, and it sounds like the air rifles aren't a whole lot quieter than a .22. I spoke with a local ECO, and he said that he'd recommend talking to anyone with a dwelling within 500ft, which is about a dozen houses. I'm starting to think it's not worth it.
  8. Squirrels are one of my favorite animals to hunt, and I'm looking forward to getting back in the woods and after them next month. I have traditionally used my 10/22 very successfully on them. This year I plan to take out my old Remington pump a few times as well. However, in an effort to conserve some of my .22 ammo, I'm seriously considering jumping into hunting them with an air rifle. Outside of the multi-pump Daisy's I had as a kid, I know very little about air rifles. We have some in our 4-H program, primarily the Crossman 1077's (which we are phasing out). I'd really like some recommendations for a reliable and accurate (scoped) air rifle for squirrel hunting. What do you have?
  9. More annoying than scary once I got them knocked out. The nest in the ceiling was a pain, but didn't last long once we discovered it. However, the ground nest by the pool stuck around until it got cold. They had 4-5 holes, and we just never could get them knocked out. My father-in-law's favorite activity when they visited last summer was sitting on the deck, drinking beer and shooting them with wasp spray when they came out of the ground. I've never seen him enjoy himself so much.
  10. When I was a young kid we'd play barefoot all the time, and stepped on honey bees about every day. My dad would pull some of the tobacco out of his cigarette, chew on it and then tell us to hold it over the sting to draw out the venom (I think that's what you'd call it).
  11. We had a nest of yellow jackets next to the pool last summer, and then later in the summer discovered they came through the soffit and built a nest in the ceiling. We had no idea (it was in our entryway) until a little hole appeared and they came swarming out of it. I got hit half a dozen times and my daughter a couple before I got the wasp spray and soaked it, and then taped up the hole. Exterminator came and we had to replace the portion of our ceiling. It was a mess. Thankfully, this summer hasn't been nearly as bad. I haven't seen any congregation of bees in our yard except for a few honey and bumble bees in the garden.
  12. Enjoying the first Octoberfest of the year this evening with a nice little fire and a bit of Stephen King on my ereader.
  13. I’m curious how Kathy Hochul will do as the new governor. I will say that the times I’ve met her she was incredibly kind and gracious. She’s a former 4-H member and would always go out of her way to speak to our 4-H youth each year that we bring them to our Capitol event. I quit even asking Cuomo’s office as I never got a response.
  14. So sorry to hear man. Just know there is a lot of hope. I’ll be sending a few prayers your way.
  15. Haha, fat fingers I guess. I fixed it. In ‘12 I got my graduate degree and landed my first teaching gig, so that wasn’t such a bad year either
  16. My wife and I are wrapping up 5 days in Maine tomorrow. The other day I stopped in at Kittery, and they had nothing but a few odd ball calibers, waterfowl loads and slugs. L.L. Bean in Freeport had a good selection minus .22’s, but my God, the prices. $60 for .300 Savage and $18 & $19 a box for target load 20’s and 12’s. Crazy stuff!
  17. I’m starting to really think about the upcoming hunting season, and what I have as goals for the season. With our 2nd daughter arriving late October/early November, I really am trying to keep them simple. 1. Take a mess of squirrels with my old Remington. In March of 2020 I bought an old Remington Model 12 pump .22, and I really want to get out with it next month and try to get a few bushy tails with it. Something about using a 100+ year old rifle for its intended purpose really appeals to me. I did take it out after deer season last year, but never got a shot. I’m hoping that now that I have it functioning like it’s supposed to, it will be able to knock a few out while they are cutting good. 2. Take a deer with my gifted Remington 760. I had a thread a while back about a rifle that was gifted to me by a family friend back in Illinois this past summer. After hours of clean up work and a good sighting in, I would really like to send John Mewes a photo of a deer that his old .300 Savage took down. Sadly, his wife passed a few weeks ago from complications due to Alzheimer’s and I think he would really enjoy a photo and a phone call like that this Fall. These are goals, but in the end, if 2021 leaves my amazing wife and I with 2 beautiful little girls, I will say that it’s been a success. What goals do you have for the upcoming season?
  18. Thanks to this thread, I just got my license and DMP online I’m glad you brought it up Chef.
  19. Loss of an icon. They are one of my favorite rock/blues groups.
  20. Federal Shotshell program for youth shooting sports sold out in less than 6 hours yesterday, I didn’t even have time to collect orders from my clubs. $7 a box for target 12’s. The demand is high with so many new school based trap clubs starting up. Next time I just need to order as soon as I see the form I guess.
