  1. It depends though. If you are focusing on head shots with the 22 mag on ducks, then I agree, the scope ring isn’t big enough, especially once they get out to 300-400 yards. However, if it’s a duck drive, and your shooting under 100 and just trying to get some lead in them, it’s plenty. The other thing about the close range duck hunting is that the rifle does leave your hands, since you need to throw it at the ducks to get them moving. Personally, I find the 22 mag to be a bit of over kill on deer and most other terrestrial game. I prefer to throw a few extra pumps on my old Daisy and call it a day. The BB has plenty of knockdown power, and doesn’t destroy the meat/hide as much as the 22 mag. Great first post by the way, welcome!
  2. Finally got a chance to pick some tomatoes after a couple of weeks of missing them.
  3. That is a beautiful Browning. Those Buckmarks feel so good in the hand. I can't imagine how nice a custom like that one must be. Congratulations and good luck with it!
  4. When I open mine, I see a column for “Recent Topics” and 6 threads beneath. From what I understand, topics from the politics sub forum don’t show up in this. Usually when I login I glance at the 6 recents and move on. There have been times in the last few weeks where all but maybe one of those recent topics were just political shouting matches between half a dozen guys. I am not at all disappointed to see things get cleaned up a little bit.
  5. There’s a place in this forum for all of the political stuff. It’s easy to find, and also easy to avoid. When the “New Posts” column is taken up by grown men taking turns calling each other idiots, it’s not too enjoyable. There’s no reason that one should have to dig through dozens of posts on a hunting forum to find hunting related content.
  6. I don’t know which Mod/Admin moved the posts around to other sub forums, but I’m sure I speak for many here when I say THANK YOU!
  7. Just be careful, she might "love you up and turn you into a horny toad". For all of the O' Brother fans
  8. My wife and I are actually going shopping for a minivan tomorrow. Our 2nd daughter is due in October, and we want to get a better suited vehicle for the trips back home to Illinois. We did a little browsing yesterday, and found the trade in value of her Lincoln all over the board. We’ve found a van we’re interested in locally, and are hopeful that we can use the trade in values to our advantage. It’s just kind of a crazy time out there.
  9. I’m going to keep my eye out at the auction and try to pick one up from there. They can run the paperwork there so I can get it added home hopefully without much hassle. Thanks for the advice.
  10. Mine would be my Browning A5 12 guage with a poly choke. Will do well for anything from squirrels to deer, and will still be reliable beyond another 80 years.
  11. That’s exactly the reason I want one. I love the process, and even enjoy the cleaning. I’m probably looking at a reproduction, maybe an 1851 Navy.
  12. I’m really thinking my next firearm purchase will be and black powder cap and ball revolver. Does anyone have experience with them and have a recommendation of a good one to start with?
  13. If you're located around where I think you are, you might try Bob's Bait on 9N in Corinth. They always seem to have a good selection of ML supplies.
  14. Yeah, the "Hunger Games Effect" has worn off, but it's nice that the interest is still there Great photos! That smiling face says it all. There's nothing like the excitement of those little successes, whether it's the first time they get an arrow on the target back, the first time they bust a clay or the first animal harvest. It makes it all worthwhile.
  15. That is awesome! Congratulations on bringing a new hunter along, and I hope she has many successes. It's so rewarding to see a young person get started in hunting/shooting sports. We saw a huge uptick in the number of girls interested in archery after the Hunger Games movies came out. Thankfully, that trend has continued for our 4-H program, and now over half of our archers, and almost half of our Shooting Sports participants are girls/young ladies.
  16. We always butchered our own when I started hunting, and I learned from my grandpa and my uncle. I really enjoy the process. I'm working on getting our garage set-up to do it again. Last year I took my doe to a local guy, and it felt weird having someone else do it. Some of my favorite childhood memories are holding squirrels for my dad while we skinned and cleaned them. My dad and I would go out and get limit in the morning, and about the time we were done with ours, my Uncle Tom would stop by with his limit. We'd end up with a big mess of them every Sunday morning, which made for a nice Sunday lunch. Sorry, I know, off topic from deer, but still a great memory. My Uncle Tom has passed, but I still remember those mornings like they were last week.
  17. Bowtech Allegiance Remington 760 in 300 Savage T/C New Englander 50 for ML.
  18. I’m not saying this is fake news, but I don’t see anything other than a couple of YouTubers talking about this, and even then the source sounds sketchy. Does anyone have a credible source for this? I’m not looking to disprove this, but I cannot verify.
  19. Someone wanting to discuss politics: "If only there were somewhere to talk about my political beliefs and opinions..." Facebook, Twitter, Reddit, Virtually Any New Source....and now huntingny.com
  20. Can we please put this stuff in the political section?
  21. Sorry about your dad, that's tough. Great job on the rifle, it looks fantastic!
