  1. 6 pins, 20-70 debating on the Trijicon sight as I like the pin point of the triangle and clear sight picture. Sometimes in bright lights the 6 pins tend to wash out my target. I do not like going above or below my target with my pins, it messes up my consistency sometimes. Figured the one pin sight would keep the pin in the same spot for every distance. Many are using the HHA one pin and love it, I just do not like the circle pins. Wish they had a better variety of pins available. This is my second option. If you are looking for better accuracy past 40 yards the one pin is the way to go IMHO.
  2. On LI I return after the hunt. Anyplace more than 3 hours away I like to stay overnight. Time in the woods varies. ADK is usually all day hunt unless good sign is present then I will do predawn to dark. LI I take it easy and go out from 7-10 am to dark again if good sign is found I will go in early.
  3. Still trying to impress her, that's love! Thanks for sharing, God bless!
  4. Yea I am not very happy with some orange gun hunters while I am in full camo and a bow. Not sure why they overlap these seasons. Just not a wise idea. But I agree Doc, it is usually small game hunters that give me some issues. O well, still fun just to get out in the woods, just hope I do not have to run for cover again.
  5. If you apply for doe tags you will have more than you will need. One for Rifle, Black powder, 2 for bow plus any extra doe tags, and you can reapply for additional ones from the DEC if you fill them all. (Doe only.)
  6. My best friend Shawn asked if I wanted to deer hunt in 1988, I was hooked instantly. We hunted the southern zone our first year and the ADK almost every year since including many other areas in NY. Hope to get his 2 boys into a deer this year and bring them up to the deep wood Dacks in a few years. No mentor except my brother taking me turkey hunting once and a poacher teaching the "finer points" my first and last year with him. 27 years not including the Crossman American Classic and wrist rocked years. One thing is for sure, my passion has only gotten deeper as the years have progressed. For me it is about the adventure and knowledge gained. The depth of knowledge and experience on this site is astounding, one reason I love this site, the people are awesome, passionate and share their knowledge to us without mentors, THANKS!!! Don't be afraid to post a question these vets love to help us newbies and even experience hunter gain more knowledge.
  7. Good luck with your new gun. I usually put about 200 rounds with all my guns combined, lighter guns are cheaper to fire and offer good practice. I agree with Mr. VJP shooting offhand in different positions is the best practice after the gun is sighted in.
  8. Wow nice bucks. I don't see any sag in the back on him, 3.5? Looks like the same deer, a day pic of last year with the legs showing would confirm. His legs have some long white in them and the G1's look similar. Facial features look similar. Love to seem them next year. Regardless they are two nice bucks! Good luck with them, thanks for posting.
  9. Very nice! I am on my 9th week of field shooting, hope to beat my score tomorrow! New Easton Da Torch 330 arrows. Going to fletch about 8 arrows tonight and start using all my old 400's to practice with. 8 weeks until bow!
  10. Love Tupper Lake! Nice pic!
  11. 1) Cyclops tree, RUN! 2) You want to challenge ME? This is MY FOOD PLOT!!!
  12. Wooly LOL that is funny! I do not wear my war paint most of the time. The camo bandana, hat and sometimes balaclava or full ski mask if brutally cold. Otherwise in so far as getting busted because they saw my head/face, this has happened more than I care to admit. Hence sometimes I go full war paint. Up in the stands I tried it did not matter hence I got down and covered up. Ground hunting is another world. JMO Being still is best regardless of camo hence still-hunting but eventually I have to move so any extra break up is always desired and lets face it, IT'S FUN!!!
  13. Great info! My buddy got turned around on LONG ISLAND! He had magnets in the gloves to hold open the mitten and expose the fingers. So he buys me a pair for Christmas!??? Thanks buddy???
  14. You have definitely gotten more than we have on LI. The ponds at the archery range are empty (2) and one is green. Mowed lawn 2 weeks ago.
  15. LMAO Steve. He is one of the leading authorities on deer. But no way if he tells me about his faith? You should be a little more open.
  16. Look up hinge cutting for #4. http://www.mossyoak.com/our-obsession/blogs/how-to/2013/08/23/the-strategies-of-hinge-cutting This is a known way of feeding deer, providing cover etc.
  17. Good luck, hope everything is ok!
