Traditional bow is the way to go, good luck!
-
Good luck with him!!!

That was funny Elmo!!! When I was in Roscoe and the big bear was around, EVERYTHING looked like a black bear in the dark. Lets just say my stalking took on a whole different level. The 200 lbs bears don't bother me its the mom and dad at well over 400 lbs that made my arrow shake in its rest. Dam that was fun!

Something you don't want to happen before the season!!!!!!!!!

Shame but better now than later. Good luck, hope your replacement finds the mark. -
I agree with Doc, sometimes you just need to figure out where the other hunters do not go and that can be a great area. Long excessive hikes are not always needed to get away from the crowd. I once stayed right next to the truck and saw more deer at lunch time and again at last light when everyone was exiting the woods. Stupid me I will probably go back this year and hike the 7 miles in to see if the hot spot is being utilized again. This time I think an overnight stay will ease the trip.

Welcome aboard! Tags are 1 buck rifle and one of either sex with bow. I believe if you have a tag from another state that is proof you have taken the safety course for bow. The original safety certificate is proof and good for 10 years I believe if you still have that.

I would love to have snow early and cold weather for hunting but I am dreading my oil bill!

Port Jervis and north, short drive nice area and close so you can use it anytime. New Paltz, Ellenville, Monticello all offer good areas. Some have better access to state land but I would want to be away from the orange army.

7+ Miles, WOW I was shot! About 15 total. DEC closed a road and I wanted to check a hot spot from the year before, it was cold! Two guys saw me walking back and offered a ride seeing how I was basically stumbling, I declined because I was a quarter mile away and was determined. (Stubborn!) Doubt I will do it again a drag would have been crazy.

Private land can not be used unless you have permission. If you have access to private land then scout and hunt it! Signs are trails, scrapes, rubs, sightings, beds, food available and use, water, tracks, cover, escape routes, crossing trails, antlers and just good observation. Observation and experience have no better teacher, get out and enjoy the woods.

DEC web site will have a vast amount of info on area's available and regulations for the area you plan on hunting. DEC will have locations that you HAVE to sign into and allows the hunter an "area" to hunt. IF you do not want to disturb anyone you will have to stay put. Tree stands and blinds work well for this type of hunting. I use blinds in the woods all the time but I call them bushes. Wildcats160 nailed it. I would add a asterisk to pre-scouting. If you want to be successful you have to get out and find the deer. Otherwise you can just scout when your hunting like I do but its much harder to get it right. (Can't get a deer if no deer roam your "spot.") Good luck and welcome aboard!

Labor of love! Very cool! I don't do anything like that to get deer, that's for sure. But I am not saying I wouldn't! Now if we could make that portable!? You are the MAN G-Man! I hope they show some appreciation for all your hard work, you deserve it.

Check with the manufacturer. I would think any gun cleaner would work and should not mess up your finish but to be safe reread the first line. Same cleaner for your barrel should be able to clean any grease on the outside just make sure to wipe it clean.

Hot seat, folds under my backpack when hunting.
-
Be careful doing that! Easy way to get shot! I guess you hunt from home?

Cool!

Pass Pray she survives and can pass her genes.

If I can fit them inside the bed I do. Last year I could not so he went on the outside hitch with his head tied up in a nice position laying down feet tucked under. The opposite position he is in these pictures, head facing forward on d/s. Sure you get some bad looks from the PETA type but I had 3 cars and trucks beeping their horn at me screaming YEA!!! It was well worth it and I would not change a thing.
