  1. Guys come on ! They can't destroy a firearm the ATF tracks all firearms from manufacture to the person who buys the gun at the store. They would have to send them back to the manufacturer or turn them over to law enforcement for destruction.
  2. I looked in 3 reloading books I have no loads for 7-08 with IMR4831 the powder is for magnum loads like the 338 but also work well in the 270win. The burn rate may be to slow for the 7-08.
  3. Hey have you guys tried necking up 204 ruger brass to 222mag. the 204 ruger is based on the 222mag necked down to 20cal (5mm) it shouldn’t be that hard necking it back up. You may need a tapper expander run the 204 brass though a full length sizing die and fire form it and you should be done.
  4. Chronic wasting disease was discovered in the 1950s when researchers observed deer in Colorado behaving like zombies, staggering around blindly as they starved to death. The disease, caused by the spread of proteins called prions, has since been reported in Canada and some US states, including Michigan and Wisconsin. No human has caught the disease, but a recent study suggests it could get into a person's brain if they were to eat meat from an infected animal. When a deer becomes infected with chronic wasting disease, it can take up to two years before signs of the illness become visible. At some point, the animal will lose weight, stop interacting with other deer, and lose its fear of humans, and it may start drinking and salivating more. It winds up staring vacantly as it starves to death, which is why the illness is also known as "zombie deer" disease. As far as we know, though, no human has ever been infected with the disease, caused by the spread of misfolded proteins called prions. But Canadian researchers have recently expressed concerns that the disease could infect people who eat deer, elk, moose, or others that carry the proteins. Preliminary results from an ongoing study by the Alberta Prion Research Institute show that macaques, the primates most similar to humans that can be used in research, can catch the disease after regularly consuming infected meat. Because of that, "the potential for CWD to be transmitted to humans cannot be excluded," Health Canada said in an advisory in April. "The most prudent approach is to consider that CWD has the potential to infect humans." As of January, there were 186 counties in 22 states that reported the disease in animals like deer and elk. CDC The rise of a strange illness Researchers noticed this disease about 50 years ago in Colorado. Since then it has been reported in neighboring states, those around the Great Lakes — including Wisconsin and Michigan — and Canada. Prion illnesses are often progressive and usually fatal, and scientists think they can adapt to infect different types of species — including, potentially, humans. But they're not well understood. The similar illness mad cow disease became a problem after cattle ate bone meal from sheep with a neurodegenerative disease. It eventually made its way into the human food supply and caused a new type of Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease, which causes rapid brain deterioration. Mark Zabel, an immunologist at Colorado State University, told Colorado Public Radio that because chronic wasting disease is still a newly discovered condition, it may evolve rapidly — "which leads us to believe that it's only a matter of time before a CWD prion emerges that can do the same thing and infect a human." For now, some experts recommend that hunters who harvest deer and elk in affected areas get a sample tested before grilling up any venison steaks and discard the meat if it tests positive for the disease.
  5. thanks doehacker saves me the time of wasting .00000000000001% of my day I type slower so it takes more time out of my day
  6. Even if you doubled the number of deer killed this year to 400000 it would still be 1/2 of a percent and not the WAG you came up with. As for deer dyeing of CWD all you have to do is Google it. everyone has prion protein, PrP normally exists in a healthy state called “cellular prion protein But it's capable of misfolding. You specifically said CWD.
  7. Hey 4 seasons are you just bad at math or running a line of crap the numbers come to about 1% checked. You know like no deer have died of CWD remember that one or CWD being sold on are shelves for 30 plus years.
  8. I’m going to hit Allen Lake when the water warms a bit. I will also hit Sugar Creek and Mill Creek. I need to do as much fishing as I can before May 21st that’s when I get my Right Knee replaced.
  9. Hey four seasons unless you have data proving the DEC data is wrong then you are just blowing smoke. If you do have the data then I think we all would like to see it. The Dec does use statistical modeling that has been peer reviewed. Modeling has to be used because we as hunters don’t do are job by reporting are harvest. So if you don’t like how the DEC gets there numbers then report your harest.
  10. If you look at the break down it was the doe harvest that drove the numbers down. That was with an increase in DMP’s I know in 9p they gave out fewer DMPs. Without looking at all the dada yet I think what they may have done was increase DMP’s in WMU’s like in the lake planes with limited access and decreased DMP’s in wmu’s where access may be easier
  11. I use a 444 marlin loaded with 265gr flat points I think it’s the best load for the 444. My shots are less than 100yds. It’s like hitting them with THORS HAMMER
  12. I can’t wait for the weather to get better. I have a new chronograph to try and I want to try my 6mm rem. With the new 103gr ELD-X I’m going to hang up my 444 marlin for 1 year and hunt with my 6mm. I have killed 1 deer with it and was impressed with it. Even though my 444 with the 265gr flat point is like hitting them with Thor’s Hammer
  13. A guy I know pans in Livingston and Allegany counties and says there is gold in almost every stream that’s in the hills. But he also says you’re not going to get rich doing it he does it for fun.
  14. If I read the start of thread correctly it about finishing off a wounded bear and not hunting bear with a handgun. So I will assume the bear is on the ground but not dead. Here is my 2 cents worth I would use any gun with a bore diameter .357 or bigger. Now for hunting bears with a handgun I would consider the 357 mag bear minimum I would not use a 45long colt unless I reload, factory ammo has to be loaded so it can be fired in the old peace maker so you are looking at 800 to 900 fps. I wouldn’t use 44 special ether it’s ok for finishing off but not for hunting.
  15. With CWD now being so prevalent in some elk populations I think it’s highly unlikely elk will be reintroduce in NY.

    Bullhead

My dad would say when you hear the peepers the bullheads are biting so I would wait for the peepers.
  17. The only thing that may save your ass would be you would have to make sure there are no pictures of you standing over it like it’s a trophy. Donate the body to science and go on every talk show and news show advocating now that they exist for full protection.
  18. Let me say I don't believe in Big Foot. Now would I shoot a Big Foot only if I had to that would mean only if my life is in danger. Shooting a Big Foot is a classic catch 22 situation. Think about it you need a body to prove they exist but then you would be known as the guy who killed Big Foot. Also you would probably be sued by Jack-links for killing there front man!
  19. Here it is the 2017 Black Bear harvest data I can't attach the PDF file the bear harvest data is on the DEC web site.
  20. looks like I will take the drive to bass pro
  21. I have killed 2 deer with a 22-250 at 200yds both head shots. Out of the back of a hay wagon on a nuisance permit. I had to kill the deer on the permit so I could hunt the land. the land owner donated the deer to needy members of his church. The only reason I used the 22-250 was for safety concerns. the 55gr bullet had less chance of pass though and knowing. I would only take head shots I knew I would more than likely kill the deer in place. That being said I would not use a 22 cal. for deer hunting. I know you can kill deer with a 22cal but there are to many good deer calibers out there. If I had the choice of using a 223 or a shotgun 12 or 20ga setup for deer hunting I would take the shotgun every time.
