Hey just to let you guys know they’re not getting rid of WMU’s. when you apply for your DMP’s you still would apply for say 8m or 9p all that will be the same. They are just grouping WMU’s from the same geographic area. You may see different reg’s for some zones. If anything they are trying to micro-manage the states deer herd.

How would determine who would have to Earn A Buck I hunt 8g, 8m but do most of my hunting in 9p. I would think under your plan 8g would be Earn A Buck so what happens most of us hunt more than one wmu.

Here’s why Earn a Buck won’t work first you would have to get rid of DMP’s. If you don’t places that don’t have dmp’s right now or low chance of getting one you could not hunt in those wmu’s. Now think of what would happen on opening day of the southern zone gun season 600,000 deer hunters out all trying to kill a doe and maybe not where they need to be killed. You could decimate the deer herd in one area and not touch in in another. Then you would really start bitching if it was your little pace of deer heaven that the deer herd got wiped out in.

If you looked at my last post and down loaded the buck management plans and the WMU groupings. The new 5yr plan is going to be based somewhat on these plans. We will find out later this month.

To those who want a state wide over the counter survey if you are for AR’s remember you vote would not count any more than the guy who only hunts on the first weekend and Thanksgiving weekend, and just wants a deer. If you’re not in favor of AR’s then I would be pushing for an over the counter survey.

First I would ask if when you are talking about a 338 brush gun are you talking about a 338 marlin or a 338 win mag. If it’s the marlin a 1x4x24mm scope is fine I use that scope on my 444 marlin. If you’re talking about the 338 win mag then go with a 3x9 40 to 50mm.

I have used a 22-250 to kill 4 deer on a nuisance permit but I only took head shots. I waited for the perfect shot and put the 55gr bullet right where I wanted it. But I would not use it during the season there is a lot of good deer calibers out there. If you don't have a rifle a shot gun with a deer barrel will work out to 150yds.
