  1. You're lucky. Here near Charlotte the leaves go from green to brown. No cool fall colors like up north, sucks. Not to mention it's still too darn warm here. I have noticed like you though the farmers have started to cut the corn, but the soy beans are still green as a leprachaun's butt hole !
  2. That's BS ! I'm pissed !! Another reason for me to hate this state.
  3. Has anyone ever taken a deer using Winchester Super X Power Point 1oz slugs? I've been impressed with their accuracy just curious on what kind of hurt they put on a deer. When using a slug gun does it matter if the barrel is rifled when using rifled slugs? I 've been using rifled slugs in my 870 with a rifled barrel and I'm getting really tight groups @ 100 yards with it.
  4. That's a model 11 savage light weight right ? I just saw an episode of gun nuts and they reviewed that rifle in .308 I believe. I was impressed how accurate it was for being such a light rifle. He shot 1 inch group 3 rounds.
  5. hey bubba, if you don't mind me askin'. How do you like that .25-06 for deer ? Do you find it too light ? Just curious.
  6. Yes loctite good ! Me use, Me like ! A lil dab is all it takes gents.
  7. I personally don't but a friend of my Dad's used to handload all our ammo for our .35's. It really helped our accuracy. Now I shoot Hornady Leverevolution ammo and I'll never shoot anything else in my .35
  8. How many times can you use the same brass ?
  9. You're right. You know what kills me ? The woman hunters who go out there wearing so much makeup. I could almost smell their perfume through the TV !
  10. Oh I would love doing that for a living. But I think if I were lucky enough to have my own show I would gear it towards hunting in other states besides the big ones for whitetail. NY and that general are. I would also focus more on what the "average" hunter does. No guided hunts. All DIY hunts, public and or private land. Maybe also focus more on the tradition of hunting camps. You know the friends, family, food, story telling and so on. Talk about passing on the tradition to the younger generation. I would think there would be a huge market for that type of show. Tred Barta kind of touched on some of that stuff and there were guys like Joe DeFalco but for the most part shows today are like watching an infomercial.
  11. Well I think Russian boars live in very cold climates and as far as I know they do very well. From what I've heard the hogs in this country are starting to have more and more traits of Russian Boar. Someone was rumored to have brought over Russian boars and released a bunch into the wild here. So I would think our hogs would most certainly thrive in a climate like NY.
  12. Nice Cabin ! I hope you get a shot at that bruin !! Good Luck this season !
  13. I think todays "hunting" shows aren't hunting at all. Said pro hunter (thats funny in itself) arrives at a guided hunting lodge/property where the guides have done all the work. Food plots, treestands hung, blinds brushed in, they have hundreds of trail camera pics of huge bucks that they know so well they even name them. Tells the "pro" where he/she will hunt. They wake up, go to stand, wait, buck comes in, shots made, deer found and then they go on about how hard the hunt was and how much time was put in. Thank the sponsors and do it all over again somewhere else. Sorry that is not hunting. Let's see Wadell and all the other come to the catskills where we hunt. I want to see them film that. I'm tired of all the shows in Iowa, Illinois, Kansas. I know the deer are huge in places like that but why can't they film shows in the North East ? PA.,NY, even ME. Some of them do a lot of hard work for their deer like Lakosky and the Kisky's but most of them don't. The Busbice's really tick me off especially Matt. They get in their private jet and fly off to some big buck mecca every week. Makes me sick.
  14. Have not used this product. As for cover scent I'd rather put more effort into scent elimination. I use Dead Down Wind products for that. I used to use all of those cover scents like earth and what not but recently I've been concentrating on reducing my scent and not usind cover scents. I do use attractants though. I like buck urine and I also use special golden estrus. This year I'm going to try using mock scrapes with a dripper. I had a small spike come in to my set and I sprayed buck urine in the air, he was about 25 yards and almost immediately he started sniffing the air. He curled his lip and started circling me. I could see it definitely riled him up. He kept pacing back and forth. It was very interesting watching him respond to the scent. I also like using a tarsal gland from a previous years kill. I'll vacum seal it with my food saver then I freeze it. I like to tie the tarsal to my boot and drag it behind me then when I get to my spot I'll hang it on a branch in hoping if a abuck cuts my tracks it will bring him right to me. Haven't had any luck with it yet.
  15. This is how a lot of people down here in NC do it. They never gut their deer. What ever works.
  16. Unfortunately hunting alone will not be enough. They simply breed too fast and too often to control. They'll have to start trapping them in big pens so they can get 10 or 12 at a time.
  17. I think what Doc and I and some others are trying to say here is that, Yes even with great shot placement whether that be a heart or double lung shot the animal can still take a little time to expire. That's just the way it is, but these are high percentage kill shots that for me at least were taught by my father, and in my hunter saftey course 18 or so years ago to me and I would think other hunters also. For someone to willingly take a shot like THS or any other shot like that (even if it Can kill quickly) flies in the face of what a hunter should do. Botttom line period, no excuses. A mistake is something else entirely of course.
  18. I'm definitely not saying that I never make a bad shot and I understand that mistakes happen especially when hunting and I fault no hunter ever for making a bad shot or mistake. I just think as hunters we owe the animal and habitat our respect and when something bad happens we should do our best to correct or make better the situation (when and if possible of course). I think good woodsmanship starts with knowing when and where to take the shot.
  19. Ok I can agree with that. Good debate my friend
  20. I'm not trying to piss you off Culver I just have strong opinions. Even though I don't agree with you I do respect your opinion
