  1. Cold beer goes very well with baked beans....
  2. Congrats from a fellow Saratoga County guy here. I used to hike/climb in the late 70's and 80's and accomplished a bunch of the 46, but never kept tract. You should be very proud and I loved the photographs. I also hike in the Presidential Range in New Hampshire and they are absolutely great. I hope you try Mt. Washington and be prepared for all conditions. I've been battling some health concerns and gain weight due to medication but would love to thru hike the Northville-Placid Trail before I'm 60. My hiking buddy from high school went on to complete (several times) the AT, Pacific Crest Trail and Continental Divide Trails (and several more)... Keep on climbing and be safe !!!!
  3. Slugs can be extremely lethal if one realizes their capabilities and spends some range time. Law enforcement uses slugs and only range time can prove their effectiveness. Even with "slug guns", rifled barrels and sabots they are limited in range and accuracy.
  4. Trying to read the grill moniker and it "may" say Buick Regal ???
  5. Thank you for the share of the family memories. Wool clothing, a pack basket and deer draped over the hood....Nice!!!
  6. Oh yes it is !!!!! Nothing better than being way back in and the only sound is pure nature....
  7. Rosie O'Donnell maybe................................... I think I threw up in my mouth a little bit just kidding about that.... Jennifer Aniston
  8. Cedar, Buckmaster and I all hunt remote Hamilton County areas and in our terms that's "big woods". The deer are living off what forage they can find and not any agricultural crops and if a deer had corn in it's digestive system then it was bait..... There is no way to mechanically transport an animal from the woods. We have two basic options, a drag or carry the buck out.....
  9. No horror stories of dragging bucks from in the deep woods, were talking about being miles off the roadway and no trails except a few snowmobile trails in the area. It's hard work and I know several guys who have carried out deer. I have a hard frame pack set up for such a need and in case I harvest a bear back in. My family and I have spent the better parts of a day and into dark dragging deer from miles back in the woods. There are no agricultural area any where within miles and maybe a few old apple trees from homesteads gone long ago. Where I hunt if one gets fouled up and lost you could travel 75 miles before you cross anything recent and maybe a abandoned log road. I can go all season and never cross a human track or see another hunter unless I venture onto the snowmobile trail system where they cross the state highway.
  10. Look at it this way, heavy boots forces one to walk slower and be a better still hunter......
  11. Hypothermia has never been a concern dragging a buck through the woods, a major stroke, maybe but never being too cold.
  12. Thank you..............I'm retired from a sheriff's office... Like your parent's should have taught you, honesty is the best policy...especially when affirming documents under penalty of perjury.....
  13. If the order was vacated and therefore null and void at this time it should not cause any conflict in your permit process. I know at least in Saratoga County the County Court Judge reviews the applications completely and as long as the circumstance is FULLY EXPLAINED on your application it should not be an issue. The "OP" will more than likely still be on your criminal history and show as vacated. More people attempt to not list what they feel are issues that may have negative lights against them and then by omission get denied for that. What I am saying is if you don't list it on your application and your history shows it there it makes it look like your hiding the information. Be fully truthful and disclose the information and most Judges understand....Every county and every judge is different...
  14. They do make a "sheeps" wool instep for them that adds some cushion and insulation for your insole.
  15. Pretty sad that it has come down to this in New York.... Let's penalize, restrict and enforce injustice against legal citizens while criminals, drug abusers and violent crime abounds... The safe act seems to be working very well in the state's capital of Albany. They even called for a "cease fire" last weekend in the city. Preat plan......
  16. Drag them out and hope for snow and maybe access to a near by state snowmobile trail. I carry a good size fanny pack and now have a roll up sled that may help on bare ground. My father and I carried, dragged and cursed a bear from the woods a few years back. I think quartering a bear would be the way to go with that. I have at camp a frame pack, small tarp, and cotton game bags if I ever decided to take another bear away from the camp. My grandfather dragged many a deer in from miles away from camp alone. He'd walk ahead, set his rifle against a tree and drag to it and repeat.
  17. Very sorry for your familie's loss.....
  18. "big woods" for the sake of this thread was in the Adirondack Mountains (Northern Zone) and traditional green/black wool plaid and such...
  19. Any of you fellow "big woods" hunters wear traditional green and black wool jac-shirts and green wool pants with L.L.Bean boots in the woods?
  20. Big foot.... Ain't no body got time for that!!!! I'm still looking for a mountain lion in the Adirondacks......
  21. My wife and two daughters all hunt, fish and enjoy archery greatly. It gets expensive to outfit them all though. A few years back we went to Cabela's in Pennsylvania and I went to use the rest room. When I came back the wife was in the archery section pushing one cart and pulling another, both fully loaded. She was fully stocked with gear....
  22. I've never personally experienced harassment as I hunt the Adirondacks and am normally a good distance from roadways and population. I know some of my buddies that hunt waterfowl in the Finger Lakes region have been verbally harassed about goose hunting their use of retrievers. I would immediately gather as much information and let law enforcement handle the case to avoid face to face confrontation now that we live in the digital world. I'm sure a video would surface showing only "part" of the true story...
