  1. LOL! Too bad he wasn't wearing these
  2. I actually ordered a larger battery - supposed to give 3 hrs, on Friday. It was $28 on Amazon. The manufacturer is Lenmar. Thanks for the tip. I'm definitely gonna try the hand warmer and the fleece hat next time I go out. The old one ran down even with the camera off and sitting on my tripod mount I made for my gun rail.
  3. Great footage! I have a JVC Everio Hard Drive camera I use to film my hunts but the battery lasts no more than 15 mins in really cold weather. I like the idea of using the hand warmer. Where on the camera do you attach it? I'm assuming around the battery??

    Hello!

Welcome to the forum. I hunt in 4Y Germantown. Don't know much about Oneida or Herkimer but there are others on this board that I'm sure can give you some suggestions. Good luck this season.
  5. I wish my buck dropped last year. I shot him with the 30-06 at 150ish yds and he ran into the woods. I didn't see where he ran into the woods and it took an hour for me to find any blood. After I found the blood trail (looked like a crime scene) I figured he was dead before he hit the ground with the amount of blood I saw.
  6. Great story! Nice buck! Being that its your first with a bow, I would definitely mount it or at the least do a European mount.
  7. Welcome to the forum. I think the 30/30 would work just fine. Good luck with baptizing your cabin and filling your freezer too!
  8. Come to think of it, I think you are right. My first deer ever was a 120lb doe I shot with my 30-06 at about 125 yds away. I put my cross hairs just behind her shoulder, squeezed the trigger and all she did was trot off toward some pines. When I went down to look for her I found her with a bullet hole right behind the shoulder. Turns out I hit both lungs clean through. She didn't even twitch when I shot her. I really thought I missed.
  9. I respectfully disagree. My last buck last year kicked like a mule. When I recovered it and processed it, I saw that I got a double lung and heart shot.
  10. Man that noise is so annoying! I was outside yesterday doing yard work, cleaning up and stuff and all I kept hearing was that incessant clucking!!! Drives you nuts, especially when you are sitting in your treestand!!
  11. OK I think I'm sold on a climber - Summit - read a whole bunch of reviews on them today and they do seem to be safe enough as long as you are wearing a harness. I have an HSS vest harness which I always wear. So I guess I'm gonna be buying one soon. For now since I probably wont be going out until opening day regular season, I'll stick with the permanent ladder stand which has proven successful in the past several years. One question that I do have, when you are climbing with the climber whichever brand it may be, how and when do you attach your hoist rope? I'm assuming you need to attach it to the climber when you are on the ground and the other end to your weapon whether its a rifle or bow leaving enough slack as you climb.

    Finally

    Congrats! Enjoy the eats!
  13. Deer wearing blaze orange???? Another two lives and families destroyed . . . http://www.wmtw.com/r/29696050/detail.html
  14. I would go with a 30-06. Good and powerful do all firearm.
  15. Thanks for the input guys. I also saw this one online but crazy $$$$$$. Good concept but way too much money for a treestand. http://store.outdoor-life-products.com/ I think I'm just going to end up waiting until after the season is over and pick up a good climber to practice with over the spring/summer months. I was thinking of one of the Summit climbers. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.
  16. Hunter accidentally gets shot in abdomen. This one was lucky. http://www.kxnet.com/getArticle.asp?s=rss&ArticleId=868515
  17. Haven't see anything in 4Y but few doe. Hoping to get this guy soon.
  18. Oh man that sucks! What a way to die. Falling out of treestand while engulfed in flames
  19. The reason I'm considering this is because I'm not crazy about climbers. I've seen and heard horror stories about guys using climbers and falling as they are climbing with them. I already have permanent ladder stands in my hunting area upstate. I'm considering this one is because I was invited to hunt on a friend's private land that is adjacent to state land on LI and he does not allow permanent ladder stands on his property. So this may be my only option. As far as the cost, I agree, its steep. But a good hang on with sticks would run about the same price.
  20. I was looking into buying this speed ladder treestand from Leverage Treestands. Does anyone use it or know much about it? I'm interested in getting this one over a climber or hang on. Price is $329.00 which is about the cost of a good hangon with sticks. http://www.leveragetreestands.com/foundations/store/shopdetail.asp?params=5200*76
