  1. Sat for a couple of hours tonight and had 2 adult doe walk through with a doe fawn and a button buck with them. they all walked right past me at 20 ft. downwind too, I think I must have been high enough that they never smelled me. If I didn't have a doe in the freezer already the big girl would have been in trouble!
  2. I went with some Montreal steak seasoning, evo, vinegar, and water. Dried on a paper towel, and bacon wrapped. Cooked to 135° . Letting them rest, they smell good!
  3. This should be posted in the recipe thread but, I was wondering what you guys/gals do with your venison tenders? Not the back straps, the 2 small tenders that run under the spine. For years i would just give them to my brother as he always raved about how good they are ( i personally like the back straps better) but when I recently helped him move I found several of them still in his freezer from years ago! Needless to say, he isn't getting anymore from me! So what do you all do with them? I was thinking of a quick marinade with Montreal seasoning and them wrap in bacon and cook in the oven? But i'm open to suggestions.
  4. I apologize because this is not live form the woods, but my phone sucks and i haven't had access to the internet since Friday. I got very lucky yesterday in Chautauqua Co after not seeing a deer from the stand so far this year, I had 3 doe come in feeding on hickory nuts about 8:30, I had shot yardage from several spots and the biggest doe walked right next to a tree that i knew was 37 yds. Broadside stops and puts her head down feeding so i took the shot. It looked good but I'll be honest at that distance I couldn't see where or if i hit her? I waited an hour climbed down and started looking for my arrow, can't find it, i did get blood but only small drops and I could smell stomach! SOB, I had watched to see where she ran and it helped with the track but, only found small drops of blood and after 2 hours we called it because she went into some real thick stuff and I didn't want to jump her. We waited 6 hours and called Deer Search, guy came out and man that dog wasted no time. She covered what took us 2 hours to track in seconds. she went right into the thick stuff and in about 15 minutes we were standing next to a dead doe! I couldn't be happier! I know for a fact that I would never have found that deer w/o the dog! It looks like the doe must have jumped just as my arrow got to her as the entry hole is low but there's an exit hole higher and further forward on the opposite side. I cut the top of the liver and 1 lung after going through the stomach. Plus the arrow was still in her! it was only in her about 6" and pulled right out? I thought how is that possible? It looks like she must have tried to pull it out before she died? The chew marks on her butt are from the dog! But he deserves a snack after a great days work! T
  5. I really love this thread, Tom your advice has helped me be a better tracker. Yesterday I shot a doe and after waiting started the track. Very little blood and I smelled stomach at first couple of blood spots. I was pretty sure where she went into the thick stuff so we backed out and waited 6 hours. I called Deer Search and the guy came out with a GSP breed! We couldn't keep up with her, she covered what took us 2 hours to track in seconds! Found the deer about 150-200 yds into some real nasty stuff. Absolutely incredible! I know for a fact that we would never have found it without the dog! The tracker said not all dogs that can find deer are Dashounds! Lol!
  6. I made several of these with hardware parts, they work great. I put the camera up higher and tip it down. I feel it's less likely to get stolen as most guys walking through the woods don't look up that much as they as walking. As for starting the bolt into the tree i usually bring a drill with me and start the hole, makes getting the bolt started much easier. If i don't feel like hauling a cordless drill with me I will use an awl to start the hole for the screw.
  7. I googled the serial number and it appears to be a Belgium made 3 hp from 1989.
  8. My Uncle recently passed away and i found in his basement an Evinrude 3 hp motor. Looks to be almost new condition. Does anyone here have any idea what it's worth? I'm sure we will be selling it. Thanks for the advise.
  9. Goose, So sorry for your loss, but as others have said you did him a great service! He had the best time of his life with you and your wife.
  10. If you find anything that keeps your glasses from fogging,I would buy it. I hate wearing glasses and these face masks, glasses are always fogging up. plus i would use it on my hockey face shield, that fogs up too.
  11. Not so "live from the woods" but I finally got a sit in last night in 9F. Sat last 3 hours, saw 1 squirrel. Made a list of the things i forgot to bring. I call it dress rehearsal! I got to try out my new Summit climber (Thanks Don _C) i needed to tweek a few things but now i got it set up the way i like it and it's ready to go! Most comfortable stand I own!

  13. Jay, I'm so sorry for your loss. I wish i had known sooner i would have loved to join that group at the wake. Praying for you and your family during this terrible time.
  14. State game lands near benezette. Also saw some at the RMEF visitors center, beautiful building! We camped at Parker Dam State park, about 20 minute drive to benezette. Tons of state land near there.
  15. Been in Pa for a few days so I haven't been able to get internet. We go every year for our last of the season camping trip. Saw a lot of elk in the Benezete area. Heard a lot of bugling! It's so cool to see elk only a 3 hour drive from Buffalo! Wish I could win the lottery and draw a tag!
  16. 18-20lbs? i never weighed it but i believe that's what there web site says. It's the aluminum stand.
  17. That's because most of the Academy hasn't hit the woods yet! Lol By that I mean 2 buck Larry hasn't hit the woods yet!
