Tacks, I wonder if all the chapters will be doing this gun raffle? If my chapter doesn't, I will take a ticket for sure, probable 2-3 tix. Can't beat that price and $35 membership is included!

It's not going to be cold enough for Tacks to shoot on Sunday, He only likes it when it's 30 below and snowing!

Awesome, now you can scan your hunting area to see where the deer are before you even step in the woods!

Where To Start In The Hunt For A Covid Shot?
2012_taco replied to Lawdwaz's topic in General Chit Chat
I'm scheduled for 3-21 (Sunday) in Buffalo, and yesterday I get an email from Roswell that I'm eligible for the vaccine there. So I checked and got an appointment for 3-12 , so I'll cancel the later shot. I wish they would tell you which vaccine you'll get, I would love to hold out for the J&J vaccine but there's no guarantee which drug you'll get. -

Not to de-rail this thread but, of the guys that have gotten the shot, did you have any reactions? I heard a lot of people who have had covid and got the shot reacted bad especially after the 2nd dose? -
Where To Start In The Hunt For A Covid Shot?

I've been trying to get the vaccine for over a month now with no luck until yesterday! I try every day, several times some days.(when I remember) I go to the NYS web site first, then I try rite aid and cvs site. Only vaccines available have been in Syracuse or further from Buffalo. My wife got a call yesterday from a friend and she said that vaccines were available at the FEMA site in Buffalo. They must have just gotten a new shipment and within minutes almost all the appointments filled up. I managed to get an appointment for my wife on 3-18, and myself on 3-21. They filled so fast that it I couldn't get 2 appointments on the same day! I assume that they schedule the follow up shot at your appointment? Unless it's the new vaccine that is a single dose? They don't tell you which vaccine your going to get and you don't have a choice. I'm getting it because until this crap gets under control there is no way I'm stepping 1 foot on an airplane and I really need to go visit my son and DiL in So. Cal. -
It turns out to be a small leak in the gas supply line. I replaced the line and got it to start with a little gas in the cylinder, once it had time to warm up it ran fine. It does run much better with all the housings back on, it appears that the heat from the engine warms up the intake air. Thanks for all the suggestions, it helps to bounce ideas off others. Of course it's going to be 50* next week, but I'm sure we'll get some more snow before this winter is over!

I'm not home so I can't check to see the brand of engine. There isn't any air filter just a little air box. The machine was running fine 1 yr ago, but it sat since with old gas in it. I assumed I wasn't able to get the carb clean so I bought a new one. I'm going to check the primer and gas lines for leaks etc. And see how it goes after that.
-
Ok, good suggestions, but here is what I got. It's a brand new carb, no air filter, clean gas, and the carb doesn't have any adjustments. These 2 cycle carbs are factory set. There isn't a gas line filter or a shut off valve. I'll try to sent a little air blast back through the gas line to verify that the gas line is clear. There doesn't appear to be any breaks in the gas line. I'll have to check the primer line. It definitely seems like it's not getting gas.

I know there are a lot of talented guys/gals on this site so I figured I'd ask. I picked up a used toro 2 cycle snowblower from my BIL who left it last year with fuel it the carb and it won't start. I took the carb apart and tried to clean it with no luck. So I ordered a new carb on ebay and installed it today. The snow blower starts and will run with the choke on full, but stalls as soon as I try to turn the choke off. That tells me it's not getting enough fuel? Gas lines are all good and I put in fresh fuel. Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks

Congrats Jerry! Retirement day will be here sooner than you think! I retired 12-31-19, no real plans for a part time job, but I was a carpenter and then a building inspector so I have been busy with lots of projects. Some for $$ and some to help friends. Lately I did some stairs for a new house, it took me about 45 hours total. But working in a cold newly framed house in February sucked! My back hurt for 2 weeks after. Not worth it! As for SS, there are a ton of options but you gotta do what works for you. No one is guaranteed another day. I believe health insurance coverage is more important. I find that lately my calendar is filled with Dr appointments. There is a lot of good advise given here from members who have gone through it all. But in the end it's your life, chose wisely my friend and don't look back! Enjoy it and hopefully we will all be able to have another GTG to toast your retirement!

The sun is a powerful source of energy! When I was working for the town I got called to investigate a couple of complaints. The 1st was a neighbor complaining that their siding was melting, turns out the neighbor to the north put on an addition and the south facing windows were reflecting the suns rays onto their garage walls and melting their vinyl siding! I told them unfortunately there wasn't any code violations but I would strongly suggest they replace the siding with Hardy plank (cement based) siding! The 2nd was where a resident complained to the Engineering dept that they had a gas leak in their front yard and it was killing the grass. There was no leak so Eng. dept. called me help investigate. It was their front(south facing) windows. The windows were Argon gas filled low e windows and the sun was reflecting onto the lawn and some bushes. You could see the grass was burned in a square shape, obviously from the adjacent window! They didn't believe me, but putting a screen in from of the window resolved the problem. I have the same problem with the side door of my garage, the glass reflects the sun onto the grass and starts to burn it, so I when we water the flowers we make sure to water the grass by that door.

I'm not really prepared. In '06 we lost power for 10 days and survived. I don't have a sump pump in my house, so no worry about flooding, I have a wood burning stove in my living room, so heat is good, and I put fridge items in a cooler and set out side. We managed, although I do have 2 freezers full of deer meat that I would worry about if we lost power for days. I have a small 1200 watt generator that might power the freezer? I should definitely look into that! Thanks for the reminder @Jeremy K!!

Tacks, do you have the schedule for this season? I would like to make it out at least once?
-
I should have known you would build it right! It brings back memories of years ago playing hockey on a pond with a few cans of beer stuck in the snow banks! Cold beers work good to ice down the bruises on the shins from errant sticks!

Dino, is the rink only for curling? Or is there ever a hockey game played on it? Asking for a friend!

I clean up the kitchen after I cook, as I make a mess! This time of year i seem to clean it a lot, but I'd rather be in the kitchen cooking up some venison than outside freezing my arse off! As for being OCD? I don't think so! The lights on all over the house that gets me too. But I go a step further with 3 way switches, I have to go out of my way to be sure the lower switch is always in the off position! ( maybe I do have issues)!!!

Happy Birthday Steuben Jerry and Tughill Tamer!

Happy Birthday guy! I hope you both have a great day! -
One of my younger brothers had to wear a leash like that! We had 10 kids and he was a runner, so my mom would tether him to keep him close by! Today she'd probably be charged with child abuse! I remember family outing at the NYS fair, I ended up in the back of a police car as I got separated from the family. I probably stayed too long looking at the conservation booths and the family went on without me. I'm pretty sure I got a beating when we got home!

Here's the finished pepper sticks. Almost looks professional! I cut the ends off and take them to hockey in a small baggie. Hockey, beer, and pepper sticks or jerky, it doesn't get any better! Yum!
-
All I did was brine the roast for 7 days, then rinsed it off and set it uncovered in the fridge overnight to dry. Then I just peppered it and put it in the smoker. No additional seasoning or brining.

Here's the smoked venison Pastrami, Reuben Sammies anyone! Yum! Yum!
