Lawd, what do you do to pattern your turkey gun? I know you must have done it several times. If you really need help I think Tacks is on the right course! I'm sure a night at the Academy will fix you right up! I will be there just to hold up that damn target!

One more egg laid today! I've been very careful not to disturb the nest. I only check it out when I know she's moved on feeding. I don't know how she is going to be able to sit on that nest for 28 days without me bumping her? I will have to cut my lawn eventually!

The hen came back today around 2 PM. Laid another egg. I'm going to get a camera on the nest asap.

I read yesterday that a hen will lay eggs even if she hasn't been bred? I'm not sure that's true but I did read it on the internet!

On Mothers Day? Really?

Not exactly live from the turkey woods but, I found this nest in my back yard under a small Alberta spruce. I think it's a turkey nest as I have been seeing a hen in my yard a couple if times for the past week. I'm going to put a trail camera on it if I can, hopefully I haven't spooked her away. I live in Amherst not exactly out in the country. I don't expect them to hatch as I have only seen hens around for several years, never see any gobblers. We'll see??

Crab poppers, care to share the recipe?

I checked my cameras when out turkey hunting on Sunday and i have pics of 2 bucks both with 1" knobs started over a week ago. I'd say it's right on time.

Sorry for the late post, I got out yesterday in 9F heard nothing at first light except a neighbor cranking on his owl hooter. Who owl hoots over 1 hour before light? I got set up in a small patch of oaks where they are there or not. No gobbles, i was thinking of calling it when i hear 1 pitch out of the trees real close. Almost immediately a gobble followed. I made a couple of soft yelps on mouth call and boom! real close, then another pitch down followed by 2 more gobbles. I get re-positioned and wait. 5 minutes later there he is at 25 yds. I can't see his beard behind a blow down, he goes into strut and has a full tail, but i still can't see a beard, he turns and moves behind a cluster of trees and figure when he pokes out on the left I'll be able to see his beard , but he walked straight away and gave me no shot!! He never gobbled again! i stayed until noon tried a few different locations and nothing. I know i could have killed him but I don't like shooting Jakes so he got a pass. There will be more chances, it's a long month.

Sorry for the late post, today is the first chance I get on a computer. I called this 1 in on Wednesday morning, took a good friend for his first turkey hunt. 8.5" beard, 7/8" Spurs. He was alone, came in strutting and gobbling. Almost too easy. The next morning I called in a gobbler with 3 hens, got him to check out my decoys, 35 yds I knocked him down only to watch him get up and run off! I think my shot was low and because I was shooting up hill and he was over a slight crown, I think I shot through the tall grass? This scope/ no scope decision is going to drive me nuts! Yesterday heard 1 gobble at first light and nothing until around 10 am. Only gave me courtesy gobbles. Great 3 days even though the weather man called for rain, most if the rain came over night or after noon near Little Valley. Taking today off to recharge, going out tomorrow in 9f.

I checked several cameras yesterday, lots of gobblers on camera, different times of the day. When I first pulled up to my parking spot there were birds in the lane about 150 yds away. I heard several gobbles. Boy if that doesn't get the juices flowing!!

I haven't done these in a while, had to make some for my last Sunday night hockey game of the season.

I wanted to try some frost seeding this year but when I checked out the food pot last weekend it was 90% underwater! I'm going to have to wait a few more weeks and i'm sure there won't be to much frost then. we'll see what happens. i did notice some clover coming back in the areas that weren't flooded.

I don't get any hunting shows on fios anymore? So I've been watching Mosey Oak Go on line, not bad, several different shows to choose from, a lot of turkey hunts right now. I haven't seen any from a blind yet. (although i just started watching) I do agree it's great to sit in my living room watching spring turkey hunts, can't wait for 5-1!

You're not done... none of us are! We all screw up and it gets worse as we get older! Sunday I made some venison Italian sausage and packed them to take to have after hockey, I was about 5 minutes from the rink and my wife called me to ask if I was supposed to take the cooler on the kitchen table? The 1 with the sausage in it! Here's your sign!
