That 1 picture with a good pattern at the base of the neck looks good, just should aim a little higher. Spilled coffee or beer = expulsion from the Academy!!

That's the way you have to test/pattern your turkey gun. Although I would be shooting at 40 yds. I don't think shooting 60 yds for a turkey is practical? It's too easy to miss judge the yardage that a 50 yd shot can be almost 60! Plus the knock down power drops so much at that distance especially with #7 shot. I would have liked to see his patterns at 40 yds and then at 60 yds. that would be very educational!

I assume you mean to dry them b4 smoking them? Do you use a dry rub on them b4 smoking them?

I have wanted to do wings in the smoker for a while. How do they turn out? I had Dinosaur wings yesterday and they supposedly are smoked and then grilled? I know they are good!

I assume you have to buy the choke before you can test it and what works in 1 gun may not perform the same in another gun. But whatever choke you go with you also need to try a lot of different shot sizes and shells. I don't remember what xx-full choke I have in my 870 but it won the NWTF Turkey shoot a lot of years ago. I'm sure a lot has changed since but I get a great pattern out to 40 and with hevi shot #5 i can shoot out to 60 if absolutely necessary. Jerry the best thing to do would be to get together with a few guys and swap ammo and chokes if you can and pattern your gun. Once you decide on a choke and match up the shells that give you the best pattern you are good to go. And you will have all the confidence when a shot presents itself. JMHO.

Tru glo Gobble stopper. I had a Hi Viz fiber optic sights on it before, but i have missed birds by shooting over them(I'm sure it was operator error) so I tried the scope. I really like it but I'm always afraid the battery will go dead during a hunt and I'll be screwed!

Happy Birthday Philo! Have a Great Day!

If i reduce the heat the smoker stops producing smoke. Then I'm just cooking them out side and it's a pia checking on them. I don't think it affects the internal flavor of the sticks, maybe washes off some of the smoke taste? They do taste great though.

Happy Birthday AT!

Rob, If you can believe the gauge on the smoker it's around 180-220. I have a propane smoker and it has to be around that temp just to produce smoke. That's why in the past I've burned so many pepper sticks cooking them in the smoker till they get to at least 155* internal temp.

Happy Birthday Larry! Enjoy the day!

Made a batch of smoked pepper sticks with cheese today. These are the best I've ever made! I changed things up a bit because in the past I would always burn some or over cook them and they would be too dry. So I smoked them for about 4 hours and put them in a big pot of water and simmered then for 30 minutes to get them up to 170 degrees internal temp (water temp 190), then ice bath to 110*, then on a rack in the fridge to dry up a little. These are going to go fast!

I buy my batteries at BJs use the BJs brand as they are always cheaper than the name brands. I don't know if they last longer or not but they do last for several months and I leave some of my cameras out all year. IIRC 48 AA batteries are around $9. (I just checked on line price is $14.99/48 for bjs and $16.99/24 duracell)

I would love to cut the cable. I have Fios and the bill sucks. Until my wife retires and no longer needs a dedicated phone line and fax for her business I'm stuck. If you go with an antenna do you get just local broadcast channels? I record almost everything on the supplied set top box and watch later as i hate commercials. And I must get the Sabres games. Is any of that possible with an antenna and some kind of internet tv?

Happy Birthday MOHO! Enjoy your day, see if TF has any of the jerky samples left to taste?

Nice mount and buck Moho!

I'm in, but i don't see how it's possible to have a real winner? I make a lot of jerky and I really like the way I make it. But everyone has their own opinion on what makes the best jerky. Hense all the flavors on the market. Ground vs. sliced, smoked vs. dehydrated, the list goes on and on. I take jerky to hockey and pass it around in the locker room afterwards with a few beers and there is always someone who says it's good but not hot enough! My response is GFY! make your jerky the way you like it!
