  1. Be patient and at times just stop and look around. Dont be so rushed to get things done, they will eventually get done. At 47 i still have to remind myself to just slow down just a little. Im unfortunately of the mentality that things need to be done now, not tomorrow.
  2. I agree, using walkie talkies in the manner used in this video seems stupid. With todays technology and if you want to comminucate deer movement with another hunter, a simple text from your phone would be less intrusive.
  3. I dont blame you. In all reality, these scumbags will only target the big cities. You guys out in the sticks are out of harms way. My cabin is looking better and better every day, some day.
  4. Yeah a sanctuary that terrorist love. Thats exactly what im going to do, relax. If stresses of daily life isnt enough, gotta deal with this $hit. They need to give me an hour alone with that guy.
  5. I walked out of the port authority this morning a few minutes before that bomb went off. Scary shit. My office building is on 42 nd street doors down from the port authority. They just evacuated my building, now im on train heading back home. Never seen so many fire trucks and police cars in my life. All those red tail lights in the pic. are fire trucks lined up one after each other all along 8th ave. Had a police officer with an ar rifle approach me and asking me where i was going, told him my building was just evacuated. Crazy times.
  6. I never really think they dont continue to use the property, but they begin to use it much less and daytime activity dies down. I can usually tell when they feel too much pressure. I usually like to give them a two week break, by then they seem to be more active in and around my property. But there are some deer that just know where there are safe havens and wont venture back. Thats just the unfortunate part we have to deal with when dealing with small parcels. Got this old doe this past weekend after giving the property a 2 week break, there were six does that came in together.
  7. If thats the case, cant go wrong with a good clover plot, white ladino clover. Provides food all year round, deer will dig threw snow to get to it. Just keep it mowed down to 6 or 8 inches and your set.
  8. That's great you have a stream, i have one as well. Sometimes people want plots and bedding but sometimes overlook establishing a water source. Im confident that if you establish sanctuaries and create plots , over a period of time you will benefit greatly. Enjoy, good luck and be sure to keep us posted (with pics.) of ypur progress.
  9. Ok good, just if you consider those bedding areas sanctuaries ensure not to venture into them at all. I think i only ventured into my sanctaury a handful of times in the last 7yeard. I get several mature bucks in the same season multiple times on my cams thats only because i keep several does on my property happy (sanctuary/food plots/apple trees/oak). But i would foolish to think that i would be able to keep any mature buck on my property...i make my property the best it could be but it doesnt mean my neighbor wont benefit from my labor intensive land mgt. tactics. Me and my neighbor compare notes at times and 9 times out of 10 he gets the same mature bucks on his cams that i get on mine, those big boys love to roam. Sounds like you have a solid plan. I dont see any water sources?
  10. Another key consideration is, I have roughly 10 acres of my 41 set as a sanctuary and i absolutely do not go in there, only to reteive a deer. Another key to smaller parcels outside of absuluetly leaving your sanctuary undisturbed, is to know when you have pressured your property too much and to give it a break. Usually if i give my property a break, deer will begin to ease back in.
  11. Its hard to establish a core area for mature or even young bucks as they can roam miles during the rut and their core area can be spread over several hundred to a thousand or so acres. What you can do is focus on providing food for the local herd to atract and keep several does happy. I see plans for bedding, but dont see any acreage set aside for creating a sanctuary? That is key for smaller parcels.
  12. I have seen this so many times, they bed up in briars and alders right next to the road. Not 20 yards off the road, facing the road. Anything coming from their back end would be heard a mile away through that thick stuff. This was right down the road from my cabin, look closely will see 2 does. I stopped, backed up my car , opened my widow and snapped a picture and they didnt budge. Unfortunately its that time of the year when all the desperate bastard road hunters are all over the place. While your in the woods they are there...lol
  13. Shot big ole doe around 3:45 today. 6 does came to apple tree and she was the last one in the line. Shot about 80 yards out, through both lungs. Shot with my dads trusty marlin 35.
  14. Was overlooking a ditch on my property that leads to quite a few apples trees and one tree was still holding quite a few apples. My hopes were high and was my first sit in this stand all season, at around 3:45 i saw a doe then 5 more. All were heading for that one apple tree. Even though i was in an elevated stand, picking shots in that ditch was tuff, cattails , twigs , trees, etc...i was leading the last doe and when she stepped into an opening the ole marlin 35 roared. Shot was around 80 yards, took out both lungs. She's a big ole doe.
  15. Hose down the drain pipe with water on clears clogs very well.
  16. And only God knows how many deer they have killed.
  17. Yes i was being sarcastic. But really you have alot to lose, just talk to this guy to get a sense of how hes going to hunt. Then in reality you and your dad need to sit and make decisions.
  18. Oh sorry , thought you were looking for advice.
  19. I have 41 acres and the most hunted were 3. I can get 4 to 5 comfortably, where they will not see each other and there would not be any danger. But that is only because my land has alot of contour. But for the most part its just me.
  20. Yes if i had strict mgt. Guidelines on MY property and fawns were off limits then yes that would piss me off. If its not your property or you dont have a lease with sole hunting rights then im afraid you have no justification to tell this family member of the owner what he can or can not kill. Based upon his killing of a fawn, doesnt look like hes into letting a legal deer walk. Either deal with it or move on. Maybe have a talk with him, at this point you everything to lose.
  21. Man went to see eddie in the movies when that first came out, hilarious.
